Top-ranked Somerville boys’ soccer falls to Boston Latin, 1-0

The top-ranked Somerville boys’ soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to unranked Boston Latin, 1-0.

Billy Hart scored for the Wolfpack (3-6-3) off Cole Rainey-Slavick’s assist. Goalie Pearse Martin made eight saves.

The Highlanders (11-1-1) were last year’s Division 1 North champion.

In girls’ soccer, Mackenzie Vlachos and Brandi McDonald each scored two goals to lead No. 8 East Bridgewater past Abington, 7-0.

In field hockey, Cara Storms had three goals and two assists in No. 4 Apponequet’s 6-0 win over Bourne. With the win, the Lakers (13-0) clinched the South Coast Conference title.

In boys’ golf, Needham won the Bay State Conference championship at the Dedham Country and Polo Club with a low score of 220 .
