Another surprise party for Belmont

Last week, it tied No. 2 Lexington. Last night, the unranked Belmont boys' soccer team hung on in rainy conditions in the final two minutes to beat No. 8 Woburn, 3-2.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first half. Then Marauders senior captain Tim Weis took charge with three goals.

"[Woburn] is a good team," said Belmont coach Chris Charnecky.

"They outplayed us the first half. My guys really came out in the second half and I was very pleased with their performance."

Weis got visiting Belmont (5-4-3) on the board one minute into the second half. Then, 2 1/2 minutes later, Woburn's Matt Pereira tied it.

Ten minutes later, Weis took a nice pass from Stephen Mulcahy and scored for a 2-1 lead, and in the 73d minute, Weis struck again for a two-goal advantage.

But the Tanners didn't go quietly, as Dan Tobin scored with two minutes to go.
