Sandwich’s defense is still a work in progress, said coach Ted Tedeschi.

But after the 6-0-1 team’s 2-0 win over Falmouth (6-1-1) in a battle of undefeated Atlantic Coast Conference boys’ soccer teams, Tedeschi acknowledged his defense, chock full of inexperienced sophomores, has been improving and played very well yesterday.

“We are not the defensive team we were last year,’’ he said, citing last year’s six seniors, four of them all-stars.

Twenty-four minutes into the half, junior midfielder Nick Cotter put a set shot into the 6-yard box that defensive midfielder Adam Scholi headed in for his seventh goal of the season.

On the second goal, speedster Dallas Donovan burned down the right side and passed to Cotter, who tapped it in for his fifth goal of the season.

Bishop Feehan 3, Bishop Stang 1 - Sophomore Devin Devoy had two goals. The third goal came from senior Anthony Cicchetti.

Burke 6, Boston English 0 - Elton Borges and Maridilson Chicha knocked in two goals each for the Bulldogs (4-0).

Randolph 2, Pembroke 2 - Senior forward Chris Savoia scored both goals for the Titans.

Girls’ soccer
Stoneham 2, Belmont 0 - Sophomore Danielle Phalon and junior Claire Mansfield scored for the Spartans with Alison Brennan earning the shutout.

Shawsheen 2, Billerica 0 - Sophomore Kim Barriss connected on a penalty kick in the first half for the winner.

Danvers 6, Revere 0 - Corey Persson and Brittany Russo both had hat tricks and Allison Tivman recorded her sixth straight shutout.

Boys’ golf
North Attleborough 166, Mansfield 150 - Adam Bourque and Terry O’Mara each shot a 37 for the Hornets

Woburn 40, Melrose 32 - Senior Mike Ahlin shot even par 35 for the Tanners.

Field hockey
East Bridgewater 1, Cohasset 0 - Brianna Barry, assisted by Melissa Sousa, scored seven minutes into the game.

Wilmington 4, Ipswich 1 - Danielle Sugrue put up two goals in the Cape Ann League game.

Girls’ swimming
Needham 100, Framingham 83 - Jessica Murphy (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) and Sarah Dinatale (200 IM, 500 freestyle) led the Rockets over the Flyers for the first time since 2003.

Girls’ volleyball
Burke 3, West Roxbury 0 - Junior middle back Cassandra Odi had 15 consecutive serves and senior middle blocker Adrianne Martin had 10 aces.

North Quincy 3, Silver Lake 1 - Sarah Minton had three digs and two assists and Michelle Cole had six kills as the Red Raiders improved to 7-1.
