Alex Vottler scored two goals to help host Harwich (12-0-1) pound Abington, 7-0, yesterday and clinch its second straight South Shore league boys’ soccer championship.

At the 27th minute, senior striker D.J. Robinson (12 goals, 7 assists) came down the right side to beat his defender and, on the end line, he angled the ball back to Vottler at the top of the penalty area. Vottler faked the defender and pushed the ball into the square, finding a clear shot into the right corner to give Harwich a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes into the second half, Vottler came back to knock in a goal right through the middle, with an assist from midfielder Dustin Beaudoin, to push the lead to 4-0.

Vottler’s performance raised his goal total to five for just the week with one assist. Vottler is the South Shore league’s leading scorer with 18 goals and 5 assists.

“He’s terrific up there,’’ said Rough Rider coach Bill Altieri. “After the move up front, he’s been scoring like crazy.’’

Vottler was complemented by the strong play of his twin brother, midfielder Chris (5 goals, 10 assists), and four-year starter Jake Rendon. Altieri calls them his three best players.

“They’re in a league by themselves,’’ the coach said. “They’re pure soccer players and that’s their sport.’’

The Rough Riders had 20 shots on goal to only three for the Green Wave. Harwich goalkeeper Zack Jamous notched his 10th shutout.

King Philip 2, Sharon 0 - Forward Matt Heagney scored his Hockomock league-leading 13th goal and Tyler Marra stopped six shots for his sixth shutout.

Girls soccer
Cambridge 1, Malden 0 - Ashley Desrosiers’s goal was all the Falcons needed to shut out Malden.

Shawsheen 4, Mystic Valley 0 - The Rams stayed unbeaten in the Commonwealth Athletic conference thanks to senior captain Jenna Zeckner’s three-point game, which included two goals.

Field Hockey
Lexington 1, Stoneham 0 - Senior co-captain Ailish Fitzgerald scored on a corner in the first half for the Minutemen.
