Bishop Feehan is running away with the Eastern Athletic Conference. The Shamrocks are 12-1-2 for a total of 26 points, while Bishop Stang is second, 12 points behind. Bishop Feehan has been steamrolling opponents, winning six games this season by at least five goals. Anne Galvin is leading the offense with 14 goals and 13 assists, while Siobhan Devoy has added nine goals and six assists.
But the defense has been the real story. Goalkeepers Justine Miller and Melissa Ellis have combined for 12 shutouts. The Shamrocks allowed just one goal in their first seven games. Bishop Feehan has had a relatively soft schedule thus far and will be tested soon as the Shamrocks look ahead to the playoffs. The state tournament will prove just how good Bishop Feehan really is.
Well-oiled machine
Matignon’s Taylor Obyrne, Maretta Guiendon, Stephanie Babineau and Jessica Landing have been firing on all cylinders. Obyrne (33 points) is leading the team with 24 goals, but has been helped by Guiendon (24 points), Babineau (18 points) and Landing (15 points). The 13-1 Warriors have been scoring at will, but most of the goals have been gravy because goalkeeper Megan Olsen has eight shutouts this season (.785 GAA).
Norwell rising
One team on the rise this week in the Top 20 is Norwell. The No. 16 Clippers have been smashing opponents, winning four games by at least seven goals. Krista Prouty (21 goals) and Bridget Conway (15 goals) are leading the South Shore conference in scoring, while the tandem in goal of Brooke Alman (.57 GAA) and Kathleen McDonald (.90 GAA) is shutting down opponents.
Nonconference life easy
Dracut may be second in the Merrimack Valley Small conference due to a 6-4-1 league record, but the Middies have found life a lot more comfortable out of conference. Dracut is 5-0-1 in nonconference play, including a 4-2 win over Greater Boston League champ Medford. Lead by Alexa Zielinski’s conference-leading 28 points, the Middies might enjoy the state playoffs - if they can avoid a conference foe on the schedule.
North Attleboro a spoiler
Kudos to North Attleboro, which knocked off last week’s No. 5 Canton, 3-2, Friday. The Red Rocketeers have been struggling this season, with a 5-7-2 record, but this win might what they need to ignite a strong finish. The win over the Bulldogs was no fluke, however; Canton barely snuck by North Attleboro, 3-2, Sept. 25.
ACL coasts into postseason
The competitive Atlantic Coast League aleady has three teams (Plymouth North, Sandwich and Plymouth South) qualify for the state tournament, and soon two more could be joining them. Falmouth (18 points) and Marshfield (17 points) are within striking distance of the postseason, with two and three games left, respectively. If both teams qualify, the stacked ACL will have five of their seven squads in the playoffs.
