Manning is striking in Falmouth's upset win
Miles Manning scored the sweetest goal of the season for Falmouth yesterday as the Clippers gained a measure of revenge with a 1-0 win over visiting Nauset in an Atlantic Coast League boys’ soccer match.
The loss was the first of the season for Nauset, which had handed Falmouth a 1-0 loss earlier in the season. The Clippers’ victory also knocked the Warriors from the atop the league standings. Sandwich now sits alone in the ACL’s catbird seat.
“The pressure was on Nauset, we just had to make a statement,’’ said Falmouth coach Bill Andrade. “We weren’t going to shift much in the league but we were making a statement that we were as strong as any other team in the league.’’
Andrade credited his defense with holding the line after Manning’s goal in the 24th minute of the second half.
“[Nauset] had multiple scoring opportunities in the final minute but the kids were great at clearing it out and playing good, level-headed soccer,’’ said Andrade.
