The waiting was worthwhile for Concord-Carlisle's softball team, which didn't need much time yesterday to take control of its game against Dual County League rival Westford.
The fifth-ranked Patriots (10-0) scored twice in the first inning and didn't let up in a 10-1 rout of the visiting Grey Ghosts (8-4).
"I was pleased with our offense; we've been impatient up at the plate in the last couple of games," said coach Lisa McGloin, whose team qualified for the MIAA tournament. "But then this game we started to really wait on the ball and wait for good pitches, which was good to see out of our hitters."
The Patriots got their first runs with two outs and the bases loaded. Casey Tarca hit a grounder up the middle that squeaked past a Westford infielder and into center field, giving C-C a 2-0 lead.
Tarca struck again with the bases loaded in the third, socking an RBI single after consecutive hits from Emily Beinecke, Georgia Guttadauro, and Jessica Stout. Two more runs scored on the play after a throwing error during a rundown. Shannon Dalton brought Tarca home with a fielder's choice.
Concord-Carlisle added two runs in the fifth. Maya Allen drove in a run with an infield single and scored on a wild pitch.
