Season to remember
"Sometimes it doesn't seem real that she has over 300 strikeouts, over a .600 batting average . . . and on and on. Just the greatest season that I've ever heard of for anybody in a high school sport." -Ashland coach Steve O'Neill, on Ashland pitcher Nicole D'Argento's season

16
Strikeouts needed for D'Argento to eclipse the 500 mark for her career. She fanned 13 in yesterday's 3-0 state title game to give her 301 on the season, and 486 overall.

Lineup changes
Ashland starting second baseman Mariah Stuart did not play because she has been in the hospital since Friday according to Clockers coach Steve O'Neill. O'Neill said that doctors weren't exactly sure what was wrong with Stuart, but said that he believed she has appendicitis as well as a high fever. Starting in her place at second was junior Katrina Capobianco.

62
Strikes thrown by D'Argento in her 80 pitches. She was also intentionally walked three times, and stole three bases in the Clockers' 3-0 win.

A star on another field
West Bridgewater senior Meg Dow was a catalyst for the offense and leader for the Wildcats softball team all season, but field hockey is the sport she loves. She's headed to Assumption College and hopes to bring her winning ways to the program. "It's too bad she's in love with field hockey," said softball co-coach Richard Zanca. "I just wish this was her No. 1 sport. If she played this game all summer, I can't imagine how good she'd be."

14
Hitters that reached base for West Bridgewater. Only one crossed the plate.

17-2
The combined MIAA tournament record for Turners Falls and West Bridgewater over the last two postseasons. Both teams reached the state tournament in 2007 and 2008.

18
Consecutive hitters retired by Alyssa Williams, who suffered the loss in West Bridgewater's heartbreaking defeat.

1
Run given up by EMass champion Lexington in six tournament games, including last night's 1-0 win. The lone run was scored by Chelmsford in the first round of the North tournament. That game was Lexington's closest scare with the Minutemen taking a 2-1 win in eight innings. Lexington had outscored its five other opponents, 21-1.

1
RBI each by Ashland's Nos. 7, 8, and 9 hitters, in the 3-0 win over Hudson.
