WESTFIELD – Powered by its “Big Four,” the Newton North boys’ track team captured the MIAA All-State title at Westfield State University.

The Tigers finished with 48¾ points, finishing with a dominant gap between themselves and the rest of the field. Lincoln-Sudbury took second with 28 points while Newton South finished just behind the Warriors with 27.

“Ryan Lucken finished first in the 400 meter, Carl Whitham took second in the shot put, Gabe Montague second in the 800, and David Oluwadara second in the triple jump, so they all came through and did what we hoped they would,” said coach Jim Blackburn.

In addition to the Big Four’s performance, the Tigers took second in the 4x400-meter relay just behind Acton-Boxboro.
