Marshfield’s Ellen DiPietro wins in high jump at New England Track Championships

One week after winning the Massachusetts state title in the high jump, Marshfield junior Ellen DiPietro won again, this time at the 68th New England track championships Saturday in New Britain (Conn.).

DiPietro cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to take first place by three inches over second-place finisher Natori Jones of Bloomfield (Conn.). Melrose senior Olivia Downey was fifth at 5-3. At last week’s All-State meet, DiPietro won with a jump of 5-6, the same distance she cleared in winning the Division 2 title.

In the boys’ vault, Hopkinton’s Aaron Beckwith was the top local finisher, taking fourth place by clearing 14-3. Lowell’s Grace Ashworth was third for the girls, clearing 11-9. Ashworth won the All-State title last week at 11-0.
