Billerica’s 4 x 800 team wins emerging elite division at Outdoor Nationals

After finishing second at the MIAA All-State track meet two weeks ago in the 4 x 800, Billerica won the event in the emerging elite division Friday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. The team of Brendan Knickle, Alex Finestone, Peter Garmon, and Scott Arsenault finished first in 7:54.05. The emerging elite division is for individuals and relay teams who do not make the championship qualifying standards.

Billerica had a familiar team chasing it. The second-place finishers were from Newton North and the team of Mike Schlichting, Jared Freedman, Nick King, and Gabe Montague crossed in 7:55.96.

In the 4 x 200 emerging elite, the Lexington team of Andrew Johnston, Ricardo Job-Reese, Michael Hunter, and David Johnston finished seventh in 1:30.90.
