It was a “night of setters” that brought four-year Marshfield volleyball coach Al Mirabile his 100th career win with a trio in the limelight.
Senior captain Marissa Lasalle had 15 assists, showcasing her “mobility while plugging new kids into the mix,” said Mirabile, handing the Rams a 3-0 win over Nauset in an Atlantic Coast League season opener (25-15, 25-15, 25-15).
Seeing their first varsity action were sophomore Lily Clancy and freshman Maddie Keating, who combined for four assists. The victory is a promising sign with Mirabile believing his squad will be one of his strongest contenders yet.
“We’re a team that usually goes 1-11 but everyone chipped in and they functioned well tonight,” he said.
Middle hitter Lindsey Armstrong steered the offense with 13 service points and six aces and defensive specialist Kristin Predella followed close behind with 12 service points.
The combination of Mirabile’s experience coaching Archbishop Williams and Braintree and his girls’ grit and attack efficiency are means for an upgrade this season as the Rams look to improve an 8-10 record from their 2011-2012 season.
