Barnstable falls, Lincoln-Sudbury rises

Barnstable took a big hit this week after falling to Newton North, 3-2, the Red Raiders first loss since 2010. Read here for the game recap.

The defending champ remains a threat in Division 1, but this will be the first week the Red Raiders will not occupy the top spot. The Red Raiders drop to No. 3 behind second-ranked Newton North and filling the void at the top of the Globe’s Top 20 is Lincoln-Sudbury. The Warriors remain unbeaten this season at 15-0 after a pair of league wins this week and a straight-set win over Newton North earlier this season. The Warriors have a rematch with Newton North in their last regular season game at the Newton North gymnasium, Wednesday. Definitely one to watch.

Melrose grabs the fourth spot with three straight-set wins this past week. The Red Raiders snapped the program’s record for most wins in a season at 21 as the powerhouse looks to close in on a perfect season with their final game one of the most anticipated yet. Newton North will play at the Melrose gymnasium, Tuesday, which will set the tone for the tournament.

No. 5 Andover remains undefeated after a three-game sweep, despite a close five-set matchup with No. 18 Central Catholic.

Canton, Medfield and Wellesley each shared a successful week to stay in the top ten. No. 10 Brookline dropped the ball after back-to-back losses against Newton North and Weymouth.

Notre Dame of Hingham was victorious over No. 8 Medfield, 3-1, moving up four spots.

Lynnfield dropped three sets to No. 16 Bishop Fenwick, falling out of the rankings.
