Team USA’s Sydney Leroux tries to quiet Canadian critics

 Of the numerous tattoos scattered on Sydney Leroux’s body, one illustrates her ascent as a rising — and polarizing — star for the US women’s soccer team. It’s a quote on her forearm that reads: “What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say.”

Leroux and Team USA face Korea Republic in an exhibition Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, a kind of home match for the 23-year-old member of the Boston Breakers.

Her soccer odyssey began in Surrey, British Columbia, where she grew up, but because she chose to play for the US, she has been a target for abuse, on social media and elsewhere, by Canadians who feel spurned.
