Boston Breakers earn 2-0 win over Portland Thorns

The Boston Breakers strengthened their hold on fifth place in the NWSL with a 2-0 victory over the Portland Thorns Saturday night in Portland, Ore. The Breakers improved to 5-5-4 (19 points) and are unbeaten in their last three matches.

Sydney Leroux scored twice for the Breakers, assisted both times by Heather O’Reilly. Leroux put Boston on the board in the 11th minute and struck again in the 39th to help snap Portland’s two-game home win streak.

Breakers goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher made six of her seven saves in the second half. The Thorns outshot Boston, 20-16. Leroux finished with seven shots.

The Breakers conclude a three-game road swing next Saturday against Sky Blue FC in Piscataway, N.J.
