The New England Revolution bolstered their draft stock for the upcoming Major League Soccer SuperDraft, acquiring the fourth overall pick and allocation money on Monday from the Columbus Crew in exchange for the rights to defender Michael Parkhurst.
The Revs have three picks in the first round: 4, 12, and 19. They also hold one pick in each of the second and third rounds.
Parkhurst, a native of Cranston, R.I., played for the Revolution from 2005 through 2008, appearing in 115 games for the Revs. He was named 2005 MLS Rookie of the Year and was the 2007 MLS Defender of the Year before joining Danish Superliga club Nordsjælland in December 2008. Parkhurst, who moved to German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg last year, has also earned 23 caps with the U.S. national team.
Also Monday, the Revolution announced it has re-signed midfielder Donnie Smith. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
