US men’s national team soccer coach Jurgen Klinsmann eschewed the all-work, no-fun ethic of his home country Wednesday by providing American workers with a form letter to give to their bosses as an excuse to take off work Thursday. Not going to make any new BMWs that way.

The US plays Germany at noon on Thursday. The mayor is hosting a viewing party at City Hall. A win or a tie vs. Germany will advance the Americans into the next round, but there are other ways in which they can advance.
