Altidore Will Be Ready for US Against Belgium

The United States is playing in the Round of 16 in consecutive World Cups for the first time, and it looks like that they will get a huge boost to their lineup against Belgium on Tuesday.

According to US Soccer, forward Jozy Altidore has been cleared to play and will be available for the US Men’s National Team as they hope to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.

Altidore was injured in the 21st minute of the US’s World Cup opener against Ghana, as he pulled up grabbing the back of his left leg on a sprint down the field. He was carted off and diagnosed with a strained hamstring that caused him to miss matches against Portugal and Germany.

The US offense seemed out of whack without Altidore in the lineup, as head coach Jurgen Kilnsmann tried different formations in order to account for his absence, totaling just three goals in almost three full games after he went down.

There has been no word as to whether Altidore will start, but any amount of time that he can be on the pitch on Tuesday will be better than the alternative.
