The US soccer team takes on Belgium this afternoon in the World Cup. So naturally, Waffle House, a beacon of American breakfast food, wants Americans to boycott Belgian waffles today in solidarity.
The Georgia-based company took to Twitter to denounce the fluffy breakfast item:
According to The Chicago Tribune, Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner said the company sells “American waffles,” which are “round rather than square, and have smaller and shallower indentations” (for optimal syrup distribution).
Warner told The Tribune: “We’re just supporting team USA hoping they come through with a victory today.”
The US team plays Belgium at 3 p.m. today, and if the US loses its round-of-16 game, it will be knocked out. So this is a big deal. (An abandon-your-Belgian-waffle big deal).
