Forward Andy Herron scored twice with his team a man down, helping the Chicago Fire salvage a 3-3 tie with the Crew last night in Columbus, Ohio. The tie extended the Crew's unbeaten streak to a league-record 15 games.
The streak is the longest in an MLS season, and matches a 15-game run by the Los Angeles Galaxy over the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
The Fire (8-11-9), in a battle for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, opened the scoring in the 14th minute when forward Damani Ralph scored on a penalty kick after falling in the box. The Crew (11-5-11) tied the game in the 45th minute when Kyle Martino converted a penalty kick.
Earthquakes 1, Rapids 1 -- Dwayne DeRosario's goal in the 82d minute pulled San Jose even with host Colorado. Despite the tie, the Rapids still earned a playoff berth for the third straight year as a result of Dallas's loss to the Revolution.
Galaxy 1, Wizards 1 -- Visiting Kansas City scored on an own goal by Los Angeles's Sasha Victorine in the 89th minute. Tyrone Marshall scored for the Galaxy in the 65th minute.
D.C. United 1, MetroStars 0 -- At East Rutherford, N.J., Freddy Adu scored on a deflected shot in the first half, providing D.C. United with the margin of victory.![]()
