Chelsea's high-priced talent wasn't enough to beat Major League Soccer's All-Stars. Dwayne De Rosario scored in the 70th minute last night in Bridgeview, Ill., and backup goalkeeper Joe Cannon made several nice saves late, giving the MLS All-Stars a 1-0 victory over Chelsea FC, the two-time champion of England's Premier League. It's the third time MLS's All-Stars beat an international squad, and the second straight win over a Premier League team.

Sharapova stops Schnyder in semifinal
Second-seeded Maria Sharapova used her strong serve to defeat Patty Schnyder, 7-5, 6-4, to advance to the final of the Acura Classic in Carlsbad, Calif. Sharapova will meet top-seeded Kim Clijsters, who beat Nicole Vaidisova, 6-2, 7-6 (7-0), in the other semifinal . . . Graham: Gatlin was targeted by USADA
Justin Gatlin's coach, Trevor Graham, says the US Anti-Doping Agency was alerted to repeatedly test the star sprinter until ``you find whatever they had put in his body." Graham told ESPN.com Friday that doping control officers were waiting for Gatlin when he returned to Raleigh, N.C., April 24, two days after the Kansas Relays, where he tested positive for testosterone or other steroids after a relay race. He was grabbed again at the April 25-29 Penn Relays. ``They just kept on testing him," Graham told ESPN.com. ``They tested him three times in one week." . . . British sprinter Dwain Chambers will race at the European Championships for the first time since being stripped of the 100-meter title because of doping violations. Chambers was banned for two years after testing positive for the steroid THG in November 2003 . . . Invasor edges Sun King to take Whitney
Invasor held off Sun King in the stretch and won the $750,000 Whitney Handicap by the bob of a head at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Invasor, winning for the eighth time in nine career starts, raced fifth down the backstretch, gained the lead at the head of the stretch, and withstood a late charge from Sun King to win by a nose in a photo finish . . . Earlier on the card, Swap Fliparoo found racing room on the rail and blew past an overcrowded field of 13 to take the Darley Test by 2 lengths . . . Former UConn star Diana Taurasi had 34 points and seven assists to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 96-80 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Sparks in WNBA action . . . Mayfair undergoes cancer surgery
Billy Mayfair, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, was diagnosed with testicular cancer last week and had surgery in Arizona. Dr. Gil Brito at the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital said the surgery went well and the cancer was contained . . . Brendan Hansen swept the breaststroke events at the US Summer National championships in Irvine, Calif., winning the 200 meters with his second world record of the week. Hansen won in 2 minutes 8.74 seconds. North Easton's Erik Vendt (15:05.41), who went to Boston College High, upset American record-holder Larsen Jensen (15:11.11) in the 1,500 freestyle . . . Sergio Santos and Wayne Lydon hit home runs as the Syracuse SkyChiefs beat the host Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-0 . . .
