Pittsfield teams could be barred after soccer injuries
PITTSFIELD, N.H. --Pittsfield Middle High School sports teams could be barred from statewide competition after a soccer player injured a member of Lisbon team in the Class S boys' championship game Sunday.
Patrick Corbin, executive director of the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association, says Pittsfield could be put on probation or suspended for violent play and outrageous behavior by fans, who booed a Lisbon player even after his leg was broken.
The association's Sportsmanship Committee will hold a hearing after reviewing reports by the referee and each school.
Three Pittsfield players and one Lisbon player were ejected from the game, which was called with 12 minutes remaining after Antonio Bifsha kicked Kyle Fifield so hard he broke two leg bones.
Fifield's mother says he underwent two hours of surgery at Concord Hospital and now has a rod in his leg and nerve damage in his foot. He faces more surgery tomorrow.
Lisbon won the game, 3-0.
