David Beckham scored twice for his first two-goal game in Major League Soccer while leading the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake last night in Salt Lake City.

Beckham thrilled the fans with two of his trademark long, curving kicks in the first half after Los Angeles had fallen behind, 2-0. He nearly had a third goal but was upended by a defender before he could get off a shot into an open net early in the second half.

The last time Beckham played in Rice-Eccles Stadium was August 2006 in an exhibition when he was with Real Madrid. His return last night drew a crowd of 25,500, the third largest in Real Salt Lake history.

Fabian Espindola and Kenny Deuchar scored for Real Salt Lake.

Beckham got the Galaxy within 2-1 with one of his trademark benders from about 25 yards in the 36th minute. He controlled the ball before curving it around the defense and past Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando inside the far post.

Beckham did it again on a free kick in the 40th minute. He blasted a shot from 29 yards that went over the wall of Real players and curved inside the left post again as Rimando dived helplessly for it.

Crew 2, Wizards 1 - Adam Moffat and Robbie Rogers scored to give host Columbus (5-1-0) its best start to a season.

Moffat's goal came in the fourth minute. Crew defender Chad Marshall headed the ball back into Moffat's path, and he jumped over a defender to net his second goal of the season.

Alejandro Moreno and Rogers linked up on the second goal. Moreno's bicycle-kick pass from midfield gave Rogers time to outpace Wizards defender Chance Myers and get his left foot on the ball at the edge of the penalty area just before he and Myers collided with goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The ball then rolled through the penalty area and into the back of the net, giving Rogers his third goal of the season in the 34th minute.

Chivas USA 0, Dynamo 0 - Chivas USA's Brad Guzan had five saves and host Houston's Pat Onstad had three as the teams played to a scoreless tie.

Earthquakes 0, FC Dallas 0 - Host San Jose's Joe Cannon stopped three shots to help his team earn a point.
