Landon Donovan had three goals and an assist to power Los Angeles to a 5-2 victory over D.C. United last night in Carson, Calif., giving Bruce Arena his first win as the Galaxy's coach.

Donovan, who leads Major League Soccer with 19 goals, recorded his second three-goal game of the season.

Alan Gordon and Peter Vagenas each added a goal, and David Beckham had an assist for Los Angeles, which broke its team-record winless streak of 12 games with its first victory since June 14.

Devon McTavish and Thabiso Khumalo scored their first goals of the season for D.C. United, whose lead over Kansas City for MLS's eighth and final playoff berth fell to one point.

Chivas USA 1, Real Salt Lake 0 - Alecko Eskandarian scored a memorable final goal at Rice-Eccles Stadium, tallying in the 72d minute to lift Chivas USA over host Real Salt Lake before 26,391 fans.

Real Salt Lake's first home loss of the season came in its final game at Rice-Eccles. After two games on the road, the team will play its first game at its new 20,000-seat RSL Stadium in Sandy, Utah, Oct. 9 against New York.

Eskandarian, traded from Real Salt Lake to Chivas USA in January, missed much of the season with a groin injury. He netted his third goal in five appearances after defender Nat Borchers collided with keeper Nick Rimando, allowing an innocuous pass to roll to Eskandarian.

Wizards 2, Toronto FC 0 - Kevin Souter, who made the Kansas City roster on an open tryout, scored his first MLS goal in a victory over visiting Toronto.

Souter, who signed in April and made his debut last week, came in as a sub in the 76th minute for Abe Thompson. Josh Wolff sent a cross into the area three minutes later, and Souter used the outside of his left foot to flick the ball over keeper Greg Sutton.

Jack Jewsbury converted a penalty kick in the 63d minute for the Wizards, who earned their first back-to-back wins since opening the season with victories over D.C. United and Colorado.
