Own goal, red card help ruin Revolution's hopes

The Revolution came out on the wrong end of a high-scoring first half and were unable to catch up while playing a man down, falling, 3-1, to the Wizards last night in Kansas City, Kan.
Davy Arnaud and Aaron Hohlbein scored in the first half for Kansas City (5-5-4), and the Wizards also benefitted from an own goal that deflected off Revolution defender Jeff Larentowicz in the 39th minute, helping them double their first-half output for the season.
Shalrie Joseph scored in the 29th minute for the Revolution (4-4-4), who played without Emmanuel Osei after he was ejected in the 32d minute. Claudio Lopez hauled Osei down by the left arm and was given a yellow card. Osei retaliated by kicking Lopez in the back of the leg and was shown a red card.
Seven minutes later, Kansas City's Herculez Gomez fired a shot that Matt Reis was only able to deflect. The ball struck Larentowicz and rolled in, giving the Wizards a 2-1 lead.
Hohlbein made it 3-1 in the 40th minute, also with the help of a deflection. Reis parried Josh Wolff's header on a corner kick, but Kansas City's Jimmy Conrad nodded the ball to the center of the 6-yard box for Hohlbein's easy tap-in.
Reis finished with eight saves.
D.C. United 2, Fire 1 - Christian Gomez and Jaime Moreno scored and Josh Wicks stopped Brian McBride's second-half penalty kick, giving D.C. United its second win in a row and moving the hosts into first place in the Eastern Conference.
Gomez scored the winner on a free kick shortly before halftime, and Moreno scored his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick for United (5-2-7).
Chicago (5-3-6) tied the score, 1-1, in the 33d minute on Marco Pappa's goal but lost its third consecutive game.
Dynamo 3, FC Dallas 1 - Cam Weaver had a pair of goals in Frisco, Texas, and Houston (8-2-3) ran its unbeaten streak to 10 games to move into a first-place tie atop the Western Conference with idle Chivas USA.
Real Salt Lake 2, Galaxy 0 - At Carson, Calif., Nick Rimando had five saves as Real Salt Lake (4-6-3) shut out Los Angeles (2-2-9), which was unbeaten in 10 straight games.
Toronto FC 2, Red Bulls 1 - Sam Cronin and Danny Dichio scored first-half goals for Toronto FC (5-5-4), which sent visiting New York to its fifth straight loss.
Sounders 2, Earthquakes 1 - Freddie Ljungberg scored in the 42d minute, then set up Fredy Montero's goal in the 59th as host Seattle (5-3-5) broke a six-game winless streak.
