Galaxy slip past Revolution
Alecko Eskandarian, making his debut three days after being obtained from Chivas USA, scored the game’s only goal as the Los Angeles Galaxy got past the New England Revolution, 1-0, last night in Carson, Calif.
The loss was the Revolution’s first in the regular season to the Galaxy (4-3-9) since April 3, 2004. New England (4-5-4) had won six of nine matches since then, and had been 3-0-1 in its last four trips to the
Eskandarian, who started last night only because Alan Gordon was injured during warmups, struck in the eighth minute.
Defender Todd Dunivant got the play started, sending a pass from the left wing to Eskandarian, who sent a right-footed shot from near the penalty spot past Matt Reis.
Kheli Dube and Sainey Nyassi both had good chances in the first half, but were thwarted by Galaxy keeper Josh Saunders, who made four saves in earning his first shutout of the season.
Crew 1, United 1 - Alejandro Moreno scored the tying goal in the 59th minute as Columbus pushed its home unbeaten streak to 17 games with a draw against D.C. United.
Christian Gomez scored his fourth goal in the 33d minute for to give United the lead, but the Crew rallied to extend their streak despite being outshot, 22-9.
