Daye and Delfino suspended one game
Detroit Pistons forward Austin Daye and Milwaukee Bucks guard Carlos Delfino were suspended one game without pay for their roles in an altercation in Wednesday’s preseason game. Daye was suspended for striking Delfino in the face, and Delfino was suspended for retaliating by swinging at Daye . . . Golden State swingman Stephen Jackson was suspended for two exhibition games for conduct detrimental to the team. Jackson picked up five fouls and a technical against the Lakers Friday. Afterward, Anthony Morrow scored 30 points off the bench as the Warriors defeated the Phoenix Suns, 104-101, in an outdoor exhibition game at the Indian Wells (Calif.) Tennis Garden. The game, hosted by the Suns, was played in calm conditions and with temperatures in the 70s . . . Reigning NBA scoring champion Dwyane Wade is expected to miss Miami’s preseason game tonight against San Antonio with a strained muscle around his left ribs . . . Marvin Fishman, one of the original owners of the Milwaukee Bucks, died at a Wisconsin hospital following a stroke, his daughter said. He was 84 . . . Moulton repeats at Hartford Marathon
Patrick Moulton pulled away early to win his second straight Hartford Marathon. Moulton, of Providence, finished in 2 hours 25 minutes 21 seconds. Patrick Tarpy of Providence won the half-marathon in 1:04:42 . . . Craig Alexander won the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, for the second straight year, completing the 140.6-mile endurance test in 8 hours 20 minutes 21 seconds, beating California’s Chris Lieto by more than two minutes. Britain’s Chrissie Wellington earned her third straight women’s title, finishing in a course-record 8:54:02. She broke Paula Newby-Fraser’s mark of 8:55:28 set in 1992 . . . Next week, world track and field’s governing body will examine how to determine gender in an athletics context, an initiative spurred by 800-meter champion Caster Semenya.Miscellany
Quebec mayor wants a team to return
Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume said he met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and former Nordiques owner Marcel Aubut about a team returning to Quebec. Bettman said he would consider Quebec City if it followed through on plans to build a top arena and if a team were for sale . . . Rafael Nadal lost in the semifinals of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing, 6-1, 6-3, to Marin Cilic. In the final, Cilic will meet Novak Djokovic, who beat Robin Soderling, 6-3, 6-3. In the women’s draw, Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Nadia Petrova, 6-1, 6-3, to move into the final against 12th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, who downed Marion Bartoli, 6-4, 6-3 . . .
