Robbie Findley scored twice in the first half to boost Real Salt Lake to an easy 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids last night in Sandy, Utah.
With Toronto’s loss to New York and D.C. United earning a draw against Kansas City, Salt Lake earned a playoff spot after Dallas lost late last night. The Revolution will secure a playoff spot with a victory tonight.
Findley got Salt Lake on the board in the 15th minute when he headed a pass from Fabian Espindola inside the right post, threading the ball between Rapids goalkeeper Preston Burpo and the post.
The speedy forward tacked on a second goal in the 33d minute when he took a deep lob from Andy Williams, popped it over the head of Burpo and slid the ball into the back of the net.
Sounders 2, FC Dallas 1 - Brad Evans, who had an earlier goal nullified by an offsides call, scored the winner in the 84th minute as host Seattle came from behind to beat FC Dallas to make the postseason and keep the Revolution’s postseason hopes alive.
While the Sounders (12-7-11) are the first MLS expansion team since the 1998 Chicago Fire to make the postseason, Dallas (11-13-6) saw its postseason hopes dashed.
The win also made Seattle coach Sigi Schmid the career MLS leader with 125.
D.C. United 2, Wizards 2 - Claudio Lopez’s penalty kick in second-half stoppage time salvaged a tie for host Kansas City.
Julius James’s header in the 82d minute gave United a 2-1 lead, but D.C. midfielder Fred drew a handball and automatic red card for using his arm to block Roger Espinoza’s shot on the goal line in the second minute of extra time.
Red Bulls 5, Toronto FC 0 - Juan Pablo Angel and Mac Kandji each scored twice in East Rutherford, N.J., as New York ended Toronto’s hopes of its first MLS playoff spot.
Matthew Mbuta struck for a late penalty kick in the final soccer game played at Giants Stadium.
