Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson announced her retirement from competitive gymnastics, four days before the start of the US championships. She has had repeated setbacks with her left knee, seriously damaged in a January 2010 ski accident, and she feared she was putting her long-term health at risk by continuing with her attempts to make a second Olympic team. “It just little by little gets worse and worse,’’ Johnson said. “My body is to the point where I need time to rest and retire so I can be healthy for the rest of my life.’’

Jaguars first-round draft pick receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested on a driving under the influence charge Sunday after authorities in Oklahoma said he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The former Oklahoma State star smelled of alcohol when an officer pulled him over shortly after 3 a.m., Stillwater police spokesman Captain Randy Dickerson said. Blackmon agreed to take a Breathalyzer test and blew a .24 - three times the legal limit, Dickerson said. The Jaguars selected Blackmon with the fifth pick in April’s draft.

Tiger Woods’s agent, Mark Steinberg, was arrested on drunken driving charges in suburban New York. Police say Steinberg was stopped during a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night in Ardsley and arrested on driving while intoxicated charges. Sgt. David Fisher said Steinberg, who told authorities who he was, was arrested after he was issued a field sobriety test. Police say his blood alcohol content on a Breathalyzer was .18 percent. Woods said he spoke to Steinberg before Sunday’s final round at the Memorial, which Woods won . . . Michael Phelps erased the pool record that was also his first world record with a finish of 1 minute 54.79 seconds in the 200-meter butterfly final at the Austin (Texas) Elite meet. The 14-time Olympic gold medalist led the entire way, touching the wall ahead of China’s Wu Peng (1:56.71). Phelps set the old record of 1:54.92 as a 15-year-old in 2001, qualifying for that year’s FINA World Aquatics Championship . . .
