US Under 20 national team starting right back Sheanon Williams has signed with Major League Soccer and joined defending champion Real Salt Lake, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Williams, who helped the Boston Bolts win a U15 national championship in 2005, had been hoping to be picked up by a European club after the U20 World Cup. But the combination of a foot injury and the US' early elimination from the tournament hampered Williams' chances.

Williams, 19, who grew up in Dorchester, helped the University of North Carolina reach the 2008 NCAA final in his only collegiate season.
