Revolution-Cruzeiro June 13?
Cruzeiro Esporte Clube is expected to meet the Revolution in a June 13 exhibition match at Gillette Stadium, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
Cruzeiro, a two-time Copa Libertadores champion, is currently in first place in the Campeonato Mineiro with an 8-3-0 (24 points) record and in second place in Group 7 of the Copa Libertadores tournament.
Though the Boston area has a huge Brazilian immigrant population, this would be only the second time a major club from the country has visited Foxborough. In 1997, a Palmeiras-Revolution match attracted a crowd of 19,623 to Foxboro Stadium. Cruzeiro, though, is considered a big draw because most of the Brazilian immigrants in the region are from Minas Gerais, home of the club.
The MLS will be taking a break for the World Cup, and this match would not conflict with the U.S.-England (June 12) or Brazil-North Korea (June 15) games.
