The New England Revolution will open play in the US Cup on May 12 with a second-round play-in game against the New York Red Bulls at 8 p.m. at the Red Bulls' new stadium in Harrison, N.J.

The match provides the Revolution with an earlier-than-expected look at Red Bull Arena, because the Major League Soccer regular-season schedule only had New England's first visit there as the final match of the season on Oct. 21.

The Revolution are the top-seeded Major League Soccer team in the tournament. Eight Major League Soccer teams compete for two places in the event, which features American soccer teams of all levels.

The Revolution won the US Cup in 2007. The winner of the Revolution-Red Bulls match will host the Colorado Rapids, and the winner of that match advances to the main draw of the tournament.
