Steve Ralston has re-signed with the New England Revolution, the team announced today.

The 35-year-old midfielder played eight seasons with the Revolution from 2002 to 2009, and was a player/coach for AC St. Louis of the USSF's Division 2 pro league. He left the Revolution in January after failing to reach a contract agreement. Ralston suffered a season-ending knee injury in September that required ACL surgery, and he was unable to play until late May.

Ralston holds Major League Soccer records for assists (135), appearances (378), starts (372) and minutes (33,143). He is the Revolution's career leader in assists with 73 and is second in goals with 42.

“We’re very pleased that Steve has decided to return to MLS and to New England,” Revolution vice president of player personnel Michael Burns said in a team press release. “Steve has always been a consummate professional and we expect his leadership will benefit us both on and off the field. The bottom line is that we believe that Steve Ralston makes the Revolution a better club and we’re looking forward to his return.”

The Revolution are 3-7-2 this season.
