Winston Griffiths, whose shot off the crossbar nearly won the 2002 MLS Cup for the Revolution, has died, according to a report in the Jamaica Observer.
Griffiths, 33, played at the University of Rhode Island and with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars and Los Angeles Galaxy before joining the Revolution for the 2002 season. Griffiths was a 90th-minute substitution in the '02 MLS Cup, played before 61,316 spectators at Gillette Stadium. His shot during extra time beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman but deflected off the bar, the Galaxy then winning the game on Carlos Ruiz' goal in a golden goal format.

To our readers,
We've added a translation feature to the Corner Kicks blog to assist readers who may be more comfortable reading another language.
Google Translate is not perfect -- we're aware of that -- but it is quite good at getting the main points of the story across. We've successfully used it on The Big Picture, Boston.com's extremely popular world photography site. I'd be eager to hear your feedback on its use in Corner Kicks, in whatever language.
