The visiting AS Roma knocked off Liverpool FC with a 2-1 victory in a match at Fenway Park Wednesday.

The crowd of 37,169, made up mostly of Liverpool fans, got into the game more and more as the game went on. Following a near insurance goal in the 86th minute by Roma, fans chanted "Rom-A, Rom-A."

"I had no complaints," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said. "Lots of pleasure getting minutes under their belts; lots of young players gaining valuable experience playing against top players."

After a scoreless first half, Roma struck twice with goals by Michael Bradley and Alessandro Florenzi. Liverpool answered in the 79th minute with a goal by Charlie Adam.

"It was a friendly but we put in our best effort," Florenzi said through a team translator. I would like to thank the crowd on behalf of the team. It was very special to me."

AS Roma head coach Zdenek Zeman said the team wasn't able to play hard for all 90 minutes.

"We did some good things on the field, but we still lack 90 minutes in our legs," Zeman said. "We played better in the first half; we were more disciplined."

2d half:

AS Roma 1, Liverpool FC 0, 62:28: Roma's Michael Bradley opened the scoring on a shot that banked off the post, drawing a small roar from Roma fans.

Liverpool FC 0, AS Roma 0, 57:05: And another fan gets a free gift, as Roma's Aleandro Rosi tried to go inner-post but the ball soared deep into the stands over the net.

Liverpool FC 0, AS Roma 0, 48:34: Pretty sure a lucky fan behind Liverpool's net just got the first soccer ball sent into the seats.
