Twellman made big impact for Revolution in brief outing
In his first appearance of the season, in a 2-1 win over Chivas USA Sunday in Carson, Calif., Taylor Twellman showed what the Revolution offense had been missing. He also displayed the commitment, composure, and focus that have helped make him the most prolific US-born goal-scorer in the last six years. (Boston Globe, 12 a.m.)
This revival is Taylor-made
CARSON, Calif. - Taylor Twellman's timing was slightly off, his conditioning below par, and he ended the game limping on an injured right ankle. But Twellman's scoring instincts remained intact as he tallied early in the second half of the Revolution's 2-1 victory over Chivas USA yesterday. (Boston Globe, 5/12/08)
Twellman might be going back on shelf
CARSON, Calif. - Taylor Twellman has played games with serious illnesses, a broken nose, and in one game scored two goals on a broken foot. Revolution thinking inside the box
CARSON, Calif. - The Revolution have had good reason to play a hard-to-get game with Taylor Twellman when foreign clubs have come calling. Twellman has scored nearly one-third of the Revolution's goals since joining them in 2002, his 101 total (of the team's 326) the highest among MLS players in the last six-plus seasons. Colorado hands it to struggling Houston
Winless in their first six Major League Soccer games this season after winning their second straight MLS Cup last year, the Houston Dynamo needed a helping hand to snap out of their slump, and Ugo Ihemelu provided it last night. (Boston Globe, 5/11/08)
Revolution know it's parity time in MLS
Of the teams with the best records in Major League Soccer last season, only the Revolution (3-3-1) are off to a .500 start. MLS Cup champion Houston (0-2-4), D.C. United (2-5-0), and Chivas USA (1-3-2), the Revolution's opponent tomorrow, have struggled. Columbus (5-1-0, 15 points), which failed to qualify for the playoffs last year, leads the league ... Twellman set to take the field
Taylor Twellman is ready to make his season debut when the Revolution visit Chivas USA Sunday. But Twellman, recovering from knee surgery, will not likely be in the starting lineup, marking only the second time he would be a substitute since 2003. (Boston Globe, 5/9/08)
Nicol adds his two cents on Champions
Few Champions League commentators can match Revolution coach Steve Nicol for credibility. Nicol, who participated in an ESPN studio presentation last week for the semifinals of the competition, played for Liverpool when it won the 1984 Champions Cup and lost in the '85 final.
