The Bulldogs had the best defense in the conference (12.0 PA/G) last year to go along with the second best offense (22.2 PF/G) in the conference, yet only finished 6-3.

Nantucket

  • Last year's record: 0-10
  • Strength: Good attitude, good work ethic.
  • Concerns: Team depth.
  • Coach: John Aloisi (1st season, First year with Nantucket, sixth overall, 20-20)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 12 lettermen
    • DuVaughn Beckford, RB/DB
    • Curren Huyser, OL/DL, Senior
    • LeMarcus Lewis, QB/DB
    • Tim Marsh, OL/LB
    • Mack McGrath, OL/DL
    • Kevin McLean, RB/DB

    • Chris Santangelo, OL/DL
    • Josh Sibley-Liddle, RB/DB, Senior
    • Rasheed Smith, TE/DL, Senior
    • Jamie Viera, QB/LB, Senior

Aloisi replaces 47-year veteran Vito Capizzo at the helm and his Whalers will look to bounce back after a winless '08 campaign. With a change on the sidelines comes a change between the lines, as Aloisi plans to stray from Capizzo's traditional I-formation and give defenses multiple looks. Also new will be senior quarterback Jamie Viera, who started at fullback last year. The defense will be loaded with experience, however, led by senior defensive end Curren Huyser. Unfortunately for Nantucket, starting senior free safety Josh Sibley-Liddle broke his collarbone in a scrimmage, knocking him out for the season.

Old Colony

  • Last year's record: 2-9
  • Strength: Both lines
  • Concerns: Graduation of skill position players.
  • Coach: David Lamontagne (4th season, 6-25)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

With back-to-back two-win seasons, Old Colony knows what it wants to do this fall. OC was competitive at home in '08, going 2-4. But the team struggled away from home, going 0-5, the second straight winless year on the road.

Tri-County

  • Last year's record: 9-3
  • Strength: Experienced offensive line
  • Concerns: Inexperience at quarterback
  • Coach: Dan MacLean (4th season, 15-17)

    • Ben Martin, OL/DL, Sophomore, 5-11, 265
    • Steven Morgante, OL/LB, Junior, 5-9, 250

    • Steve Robinson, QB/DB, Junior, 5-10, 150
    • Nick Sarino, FB/LB, Senior, 5-10, 165
    • Ryan Sheehan, OL/DL, Senior, 6-1, 210
    • Jon St. Don, OL/LB, Junior, 6-2, 185
    • Chad Todesco, FB/LB, Senior, 6-2, 215
    • James Veradt, OL/DL, Sophomore, 5-10, 250

Despite losing starting quarterback Lucas Mistler to graduation, the defending conference champion Cougars will have a couple options at the position this season. Looking to replace Mistler's 10 touchdown passes will be juniors Randy Hardy and Steve Robinson. Hardy was the starting running back last year and when Robinson is behind center, Hardy will line up in the backfield. Robinson will be a pocket passer while Hardy will use his speed to scramble more often. The new guys at quarterback will have plenty of experienced protection, as four starters return to the offensive line.

West Bridgewater

  • Last year's record: 6-4
  • Strength: Experience at skill positions.
  • Concerns: Inexperience on offensive and defensive line.
  • Coach: Bill Panos (24th season)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 24 lettermen
    • Kervans Alcide, G/LB, Junior, 5-9, 190
    • Daniel Branson, G/T, Sophomore, 5-8, 142
    • Brian Cooper, WR/S, Junior, 5-11, 140
    • Jacob Dionne, T/T, Junior, 6-1, 260
    • Andrew Drass, QB, Junior, 5-10, 165
    • Zach Fruzzetti, T/T, Junior, 6-0, 215
    • D.J. Jamieson, RB/LB, Junior, 6-0, 190
    • Patrick Johansen, RB/LB, Senior, 5-11, 185
    • David Manning, WR/S, Senior, 5-9, 145
    • Jacob Manning, WR/C, Junior, 5-6, 151

    • Nathan Peabody, T/T, Senior, 5-5, 200
    • Chris Peck, G/T, Junior, 5-10, 180
    • Kyle Rivers, G/C, Senior, 5-7, 165
    • Joshua Ruggles, TE/C, Sophomore, 5-11, 156
    • Daniel Thom, G/LB, Senior, 5-8, 155
    • Michael Toczko, RB/S, Sophomore, 5-6, 140
    • Branden Tyler, G/T, Sophomore, 5-7, 160

The best offense in the league last year should be red hot again this season, with junior quarterback Andrew Drass returning along with star senior running back Patrick Johansen. Johansen (13 touchdowns last season) will get the majority of the carries, but another back to look out for will be sophomore Michael Toczko. Toczko averaged five yards a carry last year in limited action. On defense, senior defensive end Evan Norville and junior DE Cole Paskell will try to bolster a young starting 11.
