The Bombardiers fell just two games shy of taking home the Old Colony League title last year and coach Kevin Deschenes thinks they have a solid chance at taking it this season. "How well we do, will depend on staying healthy and more importantly, how fast our players mature with varsity experience," Deschenes said. Senior running back Matt Campbell is a force on the Attleboro offense. Campbell, 6-2, 225, scored 22 touchdowns and added three extra points totaling 138 total points for the Bombardiers in 2008. Keep an eye open for Ben O'Donnell at tackle and junior Lucas Parker on the offensive line.

The Barnstable Red Raiders haven't won a league game in five seasons and second-year coach Doug Crook Sr. hopes that his 2009 squad will be able to break that streak. D.J. Crook, a sophomore quarterback with a strong arm, threw for 1,980 yards and 15 touchdowns last year. The Red Raiders are screening several players to take over for Crook's favorite targets last fall, John Gomes and Isaiah Voegeli who graduated and were responsible for scoring a total of 15 touchdowns. Seniors Joe Stanek and Ricky Tucker, and juniors Mike Holmes and Matt Delaney are vying for the starting RB slots. Stanek sat out most of the season after suffering a separated shoulder in Barnstable's third game of 2008. Crook is excited to get on the field. "We have some depth this year that we didn't have last year," Crook said. "We're really capitalizing on the team's youth." The Red Raiders have 16 returning starters compared to three last year.

Bridgewater-Raynham

  • Last year's record: 4-7

The Trojans face both a tough league and non-league schedule this season, but coach Dan Buron is confident in the team's overall depth and the ability to play more kids in order to pull out the win. Buron's big concern is clinching games, which has proved a hardship in reason years. "Hopefully with the experience we can overcome the mistakes that we've made in the past couple years," Buron said. "We've played a lot of young kids. Hopefully we've got that game experience under them now.

Dartmouth

  • Last year's record: 11-1

    • Tyler Hilchey, WR
    • Max Jackson, RB
    • Wes Lima, C
    • Andrew Sylvia, TE
    • Tyler Tavares, WR

The newly repositioned-to-Div. 1A Dartmouth Indians are hoping that losing 18 starters won't hold them back from capturing another perfect 11-0 record and OCL title. Dartmouth lost in the playoffs to Div. 1 power Everett in the semifinals. Tight end and defensive end Arthur Lynch-Fontaine, quarterback Sean Sylvia and center Justin Cruz, just to name a few, will be sorely missed in the backfield but coach Richard White is confident in Sean Grandfield's ability to pass and create plays as QB. Grandfield started five games for the Indians last season when Sylvia was sidelined due to a torn hamstring. Keep an eye open for Dylan Fagundes (5-10, 260) making an impact at defensive tackle and Richie Bellizzi at safety.

Taunton

  • Last year's record: 5-6
  • Strength: Group cohesiveness.
  • Concerns: Defensive identity.
  • Coach: Mark Hannon (3rd season, 9-13)
  • Playing surface: Artificial turf
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

The Tigers move to a new division for 2009, but coach Mark Hannon said the switch "makes no difference [to him]." Taunton is still going to bring their A-game and utilize eight returning starters and several other experienced players on the roster to stay competitive in the OCL. The Tigers boast four senior captains, including team leaders Mike Waters (OL/LB) and Devi Decourcey (RB/DB). Hannon believes that his captains' leadership in the weight room during the off-season and during the first two weeks of practice will give the Tigers an edge. "We're going to go out and compete and try to be competitive in every game," Hannon said. "I'm looking forward to [the possibility] of playing new teams in the division."
