Athletes of the Year
Division 1: Mansfield, Senior
The top runner in the state this season, McGowan's 16:05.4 finish at All-States earned him the top spot in Northfield and helped Mansfield clinch the Division 1 team title. His 16:02 finish clinched the Division 2 EMass title, and he was also second at the Bay State Invitational.
Division 2: Pembroke, Junior
It was a total team effort that lifted Pembroke to the Division 2 state title, but Kelley's 16:26.9 second-place finish at All-States in Northfield was a big help. Kelley, a Patriot League All-Star, added a fourth-place finish at the Brown Invitational, and a third at the McIntyre Invitational.
There are a lot of titles on Belays resume, including the McIntyre Invitational, the Catholic Conference, and the EMass Division 1 championship at Franklin Park. He is also the indoor and outdoor mile all-state champion. The unanimous Catholic Conference MVP is also a National Honor Society member.
Boyle's efforts this season were a large reason Mansfield won the Division 1 state team crown. Among the accomplishments for the Hockomock League All-Star were an eighth-place finish at Division 1 All-States, fifth at Division 2 EMass, eighth at the Bay State Invitational, and 10th at the McIntyre Invitational.
Forming a potent combination with teammate Ryan Kelley, Cina helped lead Pembroke to the Division 2 state championship with a third-place showing at the All-State meet, finishing just behind Kelley. He was runner-up in the Division 3 EMass race. A Patriot League All-Star, he also finished second at the McIntyre Invitational.
The youngest of the standout Mansfield trio, Collins was no less accomplished. A 16:29.1 at All-States was good for ninth place, the third top-10 runner for the Hornets. The Hockomock League All-Star added a third at the Division 2 EMass meet, fifth at the Bay State Invitational, and 10th at McIntyre Invitational.
Darrah was undefeated in dual meets this season while adding his second Atlantic Coast League championship. Last month he won his second consecutive Division 2 EMass title and finished ninth at All-States while battling the flu. A member of the National Honor Society, he also runs indoor and outdoor track.
Old Rochester, Junior
Dourdeville's second-place finish at the Division 4 EMass race helped Old Rochester qualify as a team for All-States. At Northfield, the South Coast Conference All-Star finished fourth in Division 2 at 16:40.1. The top finisher in Division 2 at the McIntyre Invitational also placed third at the Bay State Invitational.
Only a sophomore, Fujimori won every single race for Bancroft in the regular season, and was the EIL champion at Franklin Park for the second straight season. He is a Bancroft scholar award winner, and also a member of the lacrosse and wrestling teams.
The Seekonk senior had an impressive fall, capped by winning the EMass Division 4 title at Franklin Park (16:47). He was also fourth in Division 2 at the McIntyre, first in Division 2 at the Bay State meet, and 14th in Division 2 at the state championship.
Loomis Chaffee, Senior
A two-time New England champion, Hannan helped lead Loomis to the New England team championship as well. He then took his talents to the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals where he finished 14th. The honor roll student will attend Bates.
For the second straight year Herring was the Middlesex League champion, and followed that with a third-place finish at the Division 1 EMass meet, and seventh in the All-States. He also took third at the Brown Invitational.
The Merrimack Valley Conference Runner of the Year was undefeated in dual meets and won the Manhattan College Invitational. He helped Methuen finish second at the EMass and All-States, while finishing second and third, respectively, at those meets. He will continue to run next year at UMass-Amherst.
St. Paul's, Senior
The ISL champion this season ends an accomplished career for the three-time All-ISL and All-New England honoree. An honor student, he also is an All-ISL and All-New England member of the outdoor track team and the top member of the ski team as a junior.
Continuing the tradition of star runners for the Panthers, Sullivan's 16:19.9 showing was good for fifth at the Division 1 All-States, after taking fourth at the Division 1 EMass meet. A Patriot League All-Star, he also finished fourth at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, and eighth at the McIntyre meet.
Taylor was one of the most consistent performers this fall, despite this being his first year running cross-country. He was third at the McIntyre meet, first at the Bay State Invitational, second in Division 2 at the EMass meet, and second in Division 1 at the state meet.
North Andover, Senior
The Cape Ann League Large Runner of the Year had a string of impressive performances this fall including sixth at the CMI in 16:16, 13th in EMass Division 1 at 16:59 and 11th at the Division 1 state meet. The National Honor Society member also runs indoor and outdoor track.
Coach of the Year
Mansfield, , Division 2
While it's not uncommon to see a father-son combination, Mansfield enjoys the rare mother-son duo, as Collins's son, Shayne, was a big part in helping Mansfield capture the Division 1 All-State and Hockomock titles. Julie, 40-0 in her five seasons coaching cross-country, also coaches boys' track.
Pembroke, , Division 4
Having built the track and cross-country programs from the ground up at Pembroke, Zopatti was rewarded this season when the Titans clinched the Division 2 All-State title at Northfield after capturing another Patriot League title with a perfect 10-0 dual-meet record.
