Swimmers of the Year

Rachel Moore

Division 1: Andover, Sophomore
The sophomore sensation and Merrimack Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year made breaking records look easy. Moore set a state mark in the 100 butterfly and tied the 100 backstroke record. At sectionals, she set records in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Kendra Cheng

Division 2: Bishop Feehan, Senior
Cheng was the Division 2 state champion in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, and the 200 free and 400 freestyle relays. Led by Cheng, Feehan won the state title. She holds seven school records, including the 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay. She will attend Boston University.

All-Scholastics

Erica Belcher

Reading, Junior, 200 IM/100 back
The Middlesex League MVP won state titles in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke for the second straight season. She did it in Division 1 as a sophomore, Division 2 this fall. She placed in the top eight at the USA Nationals in the 200 IM in 2008 and 2009.

Irina Chiulli

Westwood, Freshman, Diving
The freshman diver placed first at the Division 2 state championships with a score of 432.7. At the AAU nationals, she placed third on the 3-meter board and 10th on the 1-meter board. She is an honor roll student.

Mary Kate Cohen

Chelmsford, Sophomore, 100 breaststroke
There was no sophomore slump for Cohen. An All-Scholastic as a freshman, she won a Division 1 state title in the 100 breaststroke and came in second in the 50 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay.

Caitlin Cronin

Notre Dame (Hingham), Senior, 100 free
Cronin is a four-time Division 2 state champion in the 100 freestyle, winning this year in 53.41. She also took first in the 50 free at the South Sectional. The Junior National qualifier will be swimming for Division 1 Loyola (Md.) next fall.

Maggie D'Innocenzo

Andover, Freshman, 200 IM/500 free
Just a freshman but already a state champion, D'Innocenzo won the 200 IM and the 500 free at the Division 1 state championship. With D'Innocenzo's contributions Andover won its 10th state title in the past 11 years. Maggie is the sister of last year's Boys' Swimmer of the Year and current Texas freshman, Nick.

Erin Foley

Bishop Feehan, Junior, 200 free
Foley was the Division 2 state champion in the 200 freestyle and 200 free and 400 free relays, helping Bishop Feehan win the state title. She placed first in all those events at the South Sectional, where she also won the 500 free. She holds five individual and relay school records.

Alexandria Frasier

New Bedford, Senior, 100 free
Frasier was the 100 freestyle Division 1 state champion, winning with a time of 52.05. She won the same event at the South Sectional, along with the 200 IM. Her 200 free relay team broke the New Bedford record. A repeat All-Scholastic selection, she accepted a scholarship to swim at the University of Tennessee.

Meaghan Grimes

Dracut, Senior, 200 Free
Grimes, a three-time All-Scholastic, was the Division 1 state champion in the 200 freestyle (1:52.74) and came in second in the 500 freestyle. She was the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 Swimmer of the Year. The four-time MVC All-Conference swimmer will continue to swim at Boston University.

Michelle Higgins

Acton-Boxborough, Junior, Diving
Higgins scored an impressive 451.25 points to win the Division 1 state diving title after winning the North Sectional diving crown. She holds the 11-dive school record with 474.9 points and has been a Dual County League All-Star since 2007. The AAU diving All-American is also an honor roll student.

Zoe Judd

Acton-Boxborough, Junior, 50 Free
Don't bet against Judd in the 50 freestyle. She placed first in the event at the North Sectional (24.43) and Division 1 state championship (24.77) and also holds the 50 freestyle school record. The three-time Dual County League All-Star also plays lacrosse.

Clarissa Palmer

Fontbonne, Senior, 50 free
A three-time state qualifier for the Ducks in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Palmer had personal bests in both events at this year's Division 2 state championships. She won the state championship in the 50 freestyle and came in second in the 100 free.

Anna Senko

Winchester, Senior, 500 free
Senko has been the team MVP all four years at Winchester and has been a three-time All-Scholastic. This fall she won the 500 free at the Division 2 state meet. She holds the school records in the 50 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 butterfly, and 200 IM.

Relays

400 Freestyle

Andover
At both the North Sectionals (3:38:44) and the Division 1 state championship (3:37:08), this team, made up of twin sisters Ashlee (left) and Alexa Korsberg (third from the left), Monica Patterson (right), and Swimmer of the Year Rachel Moore (second from the left) won convincingly. Moore set the state record in the 100 fly and tied the record in the 100 back. Patterson, a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team as well, was the 200-yard freestyle sectionals champion. Ashlee Korsberg came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke at sectionals while Alexa came in second in the 100-yard butterfly at states.

200 Freestyle

Andover
This 200-yard freestyle relay team, (from left) of Margaret D'Innocenzo, Emma Cammann, Brittany Ross, and Monica Patterson was dominant this season. They won the 200 free relay at states (1:40:59) and the North Sectional (1:40:46). Ross, a team captain and the lone senior, has been an MVC All-Star three times (2006, 2007, and 2009). Junior Patterson won the 200 freestyle in the North Sectionals and came in second at states. Cammann was third in the 50 free at states. All-Scholastic D'Innocenzo was the 200 IM and 50 free state champion.

200 medley

Andover
The 20-yard medley relay team of (from left) Margaret D'Innocenzo, Rachel Moore, Emma Cammann, and Ashlee Korsberg could not be matched this season. Moore was the MVC Swimmer of the Year and a US National qualifier in the 100-yard backstroke. D'Innocenzo won both the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle at the state championships. Cammann swam on two winning relay teams and came in third a the 50-yard freestyle at the state championships. Korsberg came in third in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.

Coach of the Year

Kyle Van Den Berghe

Bishop Feehan, , Division 2
Van Den Berghe led his alma mater to a conference championship, South Sectional championship, and Division 2 state championship. He was also named Coach of the Year for the boys' team last year. He has been coaching at the Attleboro school for five years.

How we picked the team

The All-Scholastic girls' swimming team was selected by the Boston Globe's school sports staff. Selection is limited to MIAA schools that compete in EMass leagues.
