Athletes of the Year
Division 1: Central Catholic, Senior, S
Eddy racked up 527 assists, 95 kills, and 78 aces to earn her Merrimack Valley Conference MVP award. The setter helped launch an 18-0 regular season for Central Catholic after being bumped up from Division 2. The team advanced to the Division 1 State semifinals.
Division 2: Melrose, Senior, MH
Brickley, a two-time Globe All-Scholastic, was named Middlesex League MVP. The National Honor Society member won a Harvard Book Award. She is looking at NESCAC schools at which she can continue her volleyball career.
Division 3: Case, Senior, S
Robillard has left her mark at Case: She is second in career assists (1,566), second season assists (578), second in aces in a season (89), and first in aces in a match (14). She is looking to study physical therapy at MCLA or the University of New England.
Bourne, Senior, S/OH
Ashworth was 10th in the state with 121 kills, adding to her 338 career kills. The two-time South Coast Conference All-Star has received the AVCA National Volleyball Academic Award. She is looking to pursue pre-medical courses in college.
Medway, Senior, RH
Brennan excelled as a Tri-Valley League All-Star and played on the USA High Performance Continental Team. She has received the Bay State Games Gold Medal the past two years and was nominated as the Hall of Fame Showcase of Champions Outstanding Player.
Falmouth, Senior, MH
Bunker was nominated for ACL Outstanding Player, collecting the most kills and digs in the state. The National Coaches Association named her a Player of the Week. The AP Scholar has a 3.9 GPA and is looking to attend MIT where she will pursue volleyball and track.
Sacred Heart, Senior, MH
Cubellis had more than 300 kills and was second in hitting percentages in the state. The honor roll student (4.0 GPA) has participated in the Cape Cod Junior Olympics. She is looking to pursue business at Boston University or Stonehill.
Quincy, Senior, MH
A Patriot League All-Star, Kozlowski helped lead Quincy to an undefeated season and the league title. The four-year varsity starter was part of the Mass. Patriots Volleyball Club since 2007 and plays basketball and softball. She also is a member of the Science and National Honor Society.
Medfield, Senior, L
Le-Bruno, a Tri-Valley League MVP title, helped fuel the Warriors to the Division 2 State title. She wants to continue her volleyball career in college and pursue a psychology degree.
Boston English, Junior, OH
Loyo-Torres averaged 12 kills and five aces per match this season. She was nominated for MVP in track and basketball and won the Sportsmanship Award in softball. The honor roll student is looking to pursue sports medicine in college.
New Bedford, Junior, OH
Manley broke her school record for most kills (36) in a match and in a season (408). The MGVCA All-Star was a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee and the Standard Times Player of the Year. She is ranked fourth academically in her class.
Barnstable, Senior, S
Martin contributed 566 of her 1,256 career assists this season. She also plays basketball and is part of the National Junior Classical League, the Bentley All-Star Camp, and the Cape Cod Juniors. She is looking to major in psychology in college.
Lincoln-Sudbury, Senior, S
Patel was the Dual County League MVP this season thanks to her precise setting that helped lead the Warriors to the Division 2 semifinals. She is also a DCL All-Star in softball. Patel is planning on playing volleyball at college.
Notre Dame (Tyngsborough), Senior, OH
Rigby helped Notre Dame reach the Division 3 state finals. The Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star takes part in student government and the National Honor Society and plays for the Pumas Volleyball Club.
Brockton, Senior, RH/MB
Thatcher led the Boxers to the Division 1 South semifinals and had 320 kills, 291 digs, 73 aces, and 59 block kills this season. She finished here career with 650 kills, 549 digs, 153 block kills, and 137 aces. The honor roll student also plays basketball.
Coach of the Year
Quincy, , Division 1
Niosi led her East/Central Division 1 champions (20-1) to the State semifinals. The Emmanuel graduate has been coaching the Presidents for four years and likes her team's intensity. "[They are] a true team with a passion for competing," said Niosi.
Melrose, , Division 2
Celli has compiled a 257-63 career record over 14 years and directed the Division 2 North Sectional finalists to a 22-2 season. The four-time Middlesex League Coach of the Year had a "great senior class who never gave up, who believe in team first," said Celli.
Notre Dame (Tyngsborough), , Division 3
Mahoney led Notre Dame to the Division 3 State finals for the first time in school history, only the second girls' school to do so. The three-time MVC Sportsmanship Award recipient believes that the "coach is only as good as the people he surrounds himself with."
