Athletes of the Year

Edwin Demoya

Division 2: Salem, Senior, Forward
Demoya exploded for 26 goals and 10 assists for the Witches this fall while collecting Northeastern Conference MVP, All-State, and All-New England honors. The two-year captain collected 127 career points (89 goals, 38 assists) and will look to play for BU, BC, Assumption, or UMass next fall.

Cole DeNormandie

Division 1: Lincoln-Sudbury, Senior, Forward
DeNormandie piled up 20 goals and Dual County League MVP honors in his final season at Lincoln-Sudbury. The All-American finished his dazzling career with 64 goals and 20 assists for the Warriors and is a three-time All-New England selection. He's currently undecided on college plans.

Keady Segel

Division 3: Rockport, Senior, Goalie
Segel finished his dazzling career at Rockport with a Division 3 North title as the Vikings held their opponents to 0.70 goals per game. The Cape Ann League Player of the Year also received All-New England honors. The three-year captain holds a 3.36 GPA and he's the Spanish Club president.

Chris Wild

Division C: Berwick
Wild led a Berwick Academy team that finished the season 16-0. The post-grad scored 26 goals and recorded 10 assists in EIL play. The 36 points were easily good for best in the league. Including post-season play, Wild finished with 31 goals on the season. He hopes to continue with soccer in college.

All-Scholastics

Thomas Ballenthin

Lexington, Senior, Defense
Ballenthin anchored the Lexington defense which allowed just 10 goals in 21 games this season. The All-New England defender earned his second All-Scholastic selection and third Middlesex League All-Star honor while collecting seven goals and seven assists for the Minutemen.

Fernando Baptista

New Bedford, Senior, Midfield
Baptista's calm and physical style of play led the Whalers to a Division 1 EMass championship in 2010. The Big Three MVP and All-State player pulled off an impressive overtime volley from 25 yards out to send his team to the state title game before eventually falling to Ludlow, 4-1.

Cam Bielski

Dover-Sherborn, Senior, Forward/Midfield
The two-time Tri-Valley League MVP propelled the Raiders to a 16-2-4 record and their first Division 3 state title since 1992. The University of New Hampshire-bound forward scored 17 goals and added 22 assists as he finished his four-year varsity career with 98 points (49 goals, 49 assists).

Benjamin Bratt

Winchester, Senior, Defense
The two-year captain helped guide the Sachems to their first undefeated regular season in program history. Bratt was named an Eastern Mass. All-Star by the Coaches Association for the second consecutive year. The four-year starting defender finished his career with 10 goals and 11 assists.

Andres Burbank-Crump

Brooks, Senior
The ISL Defensive Player of the Year finished with 11 goals and six assists. Burbank-Crump was named to the NEPSAC all-star team and has been named a National Hispanic Scholar. The honors student, who also captains the squash team, plans to attend Williams College.

Michael DiFronzo

Phillips Andover, Senior
The NSCAA All-American played every minute this season at center midfield, scoring five goals and assisting on five more. The first two-year captain at the Academy in mre than 25 years also plays varsity baseball He plans to attend Boston College.

Matt Keys

King Philip, Senior, Defense
Keys led the Warriors to a Hockomock League title in the Kelly-Rex division, finishing 10-4-4. The center-back was named league MVP and earned All-American, All-New England and All-State honors. The three-time league all-star also scored eight goals and added three assists.

Robbie Lynch

Weymouth, Senior, Midfield
The All-New England midfielder propelled the Wildcats all the way to the Division 1 South final, eventually losing to New Bedford in penalty kicks. The Bay State Conference MVP had five goals and 15 assists and also led Weymouth to the Bay State title and 14-3-7 overall record.

Cam McGrory

Concord-Carlisle, Senior, Goalie
McGrory was the rock in net for a Concord-Carlisle team that captured back-to-back Division 2 state titles and finished 21-1-1 this season. The senior captain was a two-time Dual County League All-Star, collecting 27 shutouts in his four-year varsity career, including 14 in 2010.

Homero Morais

Somerville, Senior, Midfield/Forward
Morais found the net 26 times and dished out 23 helpers during the 2010 season, propelling the No. 17-seeded Highlanders to the Division 1 North semifinals. The three-time Greater Boston League MVP finished his career with 88 goals and also plays on the U18 New England Revolution.

Jimmy O'Leary

St. John's Prep, Senior, Defense
An All-State selection, the senior defender captained the Eagles to a Catholic Conference title this fall. Also picking up Catholic Conference Player of the Year honors, the three-year starter and National Honor Society member will attend Colby College next fall.

Alex Puchrik

Concord-Carlisle, Senior, Midfield/Forward
Puchrik was the engine that made the Patriots go this season, playing some midfield while also combining with lightning-fast junior Mikey O'Brien to form a high-scoring duo at the attacking end. The senior DCL All-Star and team captain collected eight goals and 11 assists.

Michael Rincon

Malden, Senior, Forward/Midfielder
The two-year Malden captain scored 14 goals and added six assists on his way to Great Boston League All-Star honors. The speedy forward/midfielder finished his career with 41 goals and 19 assists and also captains the U18 New England Revolution Academy. He runs track in the winter.

Tyler Savonen

Nauset, Senior, Forward
Savonen led the Atlantic Coast League in scoring for the second consecutive year, posting 25 goals to go along with 14 assists. The ACL Player of the Year also picked up Eastern Mass, All-State and All-New England honors. The two-year captain will play at Tufts in the fall.

Oliver White

Nobles, Junior
The ISL Offensive Player of the Year and leading scorer propelled Nobles to an ISL championship and the finals of the NEPSAC Class C Tournament. White is also a three-year varsity baseball player and MVP of the state champion F.C. Blazers club soccer team.

Dan Erickson

Canton
Erickson led the Bulldogs to their first undefeated regular season in program history and a Division 2 South sectional championship. His alma mater also earned its third consecutive Hockomock League title in the Davenport division and was honored with the MIAA sportsmanship award.

Joe Gruseck

Dover-Sherborn
Gruseck took his No. 7-seeded squad all the way this season, capturing the Division 3 state title as the Raiders finished 16-2-4. {lsquo}{lsquo}They played for each other, had great chemistry, and refused to quit,'' he said. {lsquo}{lsquo}It was a privilege and honor to coach them.''

John Macaroco

New Bedford
Macaroco led the Whalers to a 19-2-3 record and the Division 1 EMass title this fall. Along the way New Bedford won the Big Three championship, the Division 1 South sectional and the EMass title, beating Newton North. A 1983 New Bedford graduate, he's been coaching for 11 years.
