Athletes of the Year
Division 2: Dennis-Yarmouth, Junior
A repeat All-Scholastic selection, O'Dea has been undefeated in the Atlantic Coast League two years running, and has strong wins at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, the Division 4 EMass meet and the Division 1 All-State meet (18:34.4). She's also a member of the MSTCA All-Academic team.
Division 1: Peabody
Rocha crushed the competition at both the EMass Divison 1 meet (18:06) and the All-State Division (18:12) this season, earning another All-Scholastic selection. She followed up her Massachusetts domination with a third-place finish at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals to earn her second trip to nationals.
The Dual County League Runner of the Year finished first at the conference meet, the EMass Division 5 meet, and the Bowdoin Park Invitational. The honor roll senior also finished ninth in the Division 1 All-State race. She's also been honored with Weston's Scholar-Athlete Award.
Davis has been an asset to the Acton-Boxboro cross-country squad these past three years, and has twice been named team MVP. She finished second at the DCL meet this year, third at the Ocean State Invitational, and third at the Division 1 EMass meet.
Fouda, a repeat All-Scholastic selection, was undefeated in the regular season this year and also took the top spot at the Division 3 EMass meet. The senior captain and two-time team MVP finished eighth at both the Brown Invitational and the Division 1 All-State meet.
Giese, the Hockomock MVP, turned in a brilliant, 17:49.99 performance at the Junior-Senior State Coaches Invitational, to take the win. She followed that up with another strong title-winning run at the EMass Division 2 meet, and finished 11th at the All-State Divison 1 meet.
Keiran was named the Tigers' MVP for the third straight season after her wins at the Division 6 EMass meet and the Catholic Memorial Invitational Division 2 meet. The Cape Ann League Small Runner of the Year is also the reigning indoor mile champion.
Loomis Chaffee, Senior
Malanga won five of the seven races she competed in this fall including the NEPSTA Division 1 championship at Phillips Andover which she won by 12 seconds. An honors student, the Connecticut resident is a four-year varsity athlete in cross-country, track and basketball.
Bishop Feehan, Junior
This talented sophomore had a breakout 2011, making a name for herself amongst the Shamrocks' star-studded roster with her third-place finish in the Division 2 All-State race as she helped Bishop Feehan to its third straight title. An EAC All-Star, she also runs track.
Mullins was consistently near the front of the pack at the major meets this season, finishing third at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, second at the EMass Division 1 meet (18:41) and third at the All-State meet (18:45). She was also a Spring 2010 All-Scholastic.
O'Neil started her major meet season strongly with her 18:57 time at the McIntyre Twilight meet, good for fifth place. She was sixth at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, second in the EMass Division 2 championship race, and seventh at Division 1 All-States. O'Neil is also a varsity swimmer.
Phelan finished third (19:24) at the EMass Division 3 meet and fourth (18:58) at the All-Division 1 State meet, where Hamilton-Wenham finished second. The senior captain and National Honor Society member led the Generals to their seventh straight undefeated Cape Ann League regular season.
Bishop Feehan, Senior
Powell was second at the Division 2 All-State meet with her 18:44 time, leading Bishop Feehan to the state title. This is the second All-Scholastic cross-country nod for the senior cocaptain, who is also a member of the English Honor Society at Feehan.
Shelgren's 19:20 time in the Division 2 EMass race was good for second place, making the senior a big part of Masconomet's narrow title win over Lincoln-Sudbury. The captain also finished second at the Cape Ann League meet and was fifth at the All-States.
Stark took on all comers this season and came away victorious every time. She was the ISL champion for a second time, and this fall with the largest margin of victory ever (1:06). She is a four-time New England champion who holds 13 course records. She will atten Yale.
Surette finished the season undefeated, winning the EIL championship this year at Franklin Park and followed that up by winning the NEPSTA Division 4 title as well. A high-honors student, she is a two-time league all-star and is a member of the track team.
Bishop Feehan, Senior
Svensen took 11th place at the Division 2 All-State meet to help push Bishop Feehan to its third-straight state cross country title. The senior co-captain and four-time Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star also captains the Shamrocks' indoor and outdoor track squads.
coach of the year
The Panthers were lights-out under Erwin this season, going 8-0 in the Patriot League before winning the Division 3 EMass meet and the Division 1 All-State meet. The '98 Whitman-Hanson Alum called fall 2011 "an amazing season ... one that I will cherish forever."
Weston went 8-0 and won the Dual County League title. Under Monz, a cross-country coach for 30 years, Weston nearly unseated perennial Division 5 EMass power Hamilton-Wenham, falling one point short. The Wildcats were also strong the following week, finishing third behind Bishop Feehan and Hamilton-Wenham at Division 2 All-States.
