Athletes of the Year

Alison Butler

Division 1: St. Mary's, Junior, F
Butler had 17 goals and 44 assists to lead the Spartans in scoring, giving her 137 points in her career. The junior left wing also plays for the St. Mary's softball team, which won a state title in 2010. The honor roll student plays hockey for the Middlesex Islanders.

Martha Findley

Division 2: Duxbury, Senior, D
The senior defender had nine goals and 35 assists and finished a plus-59 in helping the Dragons to their second straight Division 2 state title. The four-time SEMGHL All-Star, three-time team MVP, and two-time Globe All-Scholastic will attend Cushing Academy in the fall.

Natalie Flynn

Division 1: Arlington Catholic, Senior, F
The senior capped her career with 19 goals and 14 assists, helping her finish with 127 points and a Divisiion 1 state title. The four-time Catholic Central League All-Star received the Hockey Night in Boston top forward award. The honor roll student was also a league MVP in lacrosse and soccer.

Kati Goguen

Division 1: Acton-Boxborough, Senior, F
The senior forward led the Colonials to the Division 1 state quarterfinals, piling up 17 goals and 43 points to finish her career with 63 goals and 149 points. Goguen posted a 3.6 GPA and competes for the Assabet U-19 National team. She will attend Holy Cross, where she will continue her hockey career.

Hannah Murphy

Division 2: Duxbury, Junior, F
The junior forward scored the winning goals in both of the Dragons' back-to-back state championships and notched 52 points this season to lead Duxbury in scoring for the second consecutive season. The honor roll student also is an All-Scholastic in field hockey and lacrosse.

Rachel Myette

Division 2: Duxbury, Sophomore, G
The sophomore goalie had eight shutouts and a .928 save percentage, helping the Green Dragons to their second straight Division 2 state title. The honor roll student also plays lacrosse and is a member of the Bay State Breakers.

All-Scholastics

Brenna Callahan

Falmouth, Senior, F
The four-time SEMGHL All-Star guided the Clippers to the Division 2 final. She notched 61 points for her career and also played field hockey, grabbing two All-Star nods.

Tara Celata

Dedham, Senior, D
The senior defender earned Bay State league MVP honors after finishing with 11 goals and 20 assists. A three-time Bay State League All-Star, Celata is a National Honor Society member who in 2011 received the Harvard Book Award and the Hobey Baker Character Award. Celata will play hockey for Bowdoin College.

Shannon Farrell

Berwick
The senior forward amassed 36 points to reach the 100-point milestone in her three years at Berwick Academy. She was named MVP of the EIL and is a three-time EIL all-star. She will play hockey at Trinity College next year.

Jane Freda

Hingham, Junior, F
The junior forward delivered 31 goals and 32 assists to reach her career 101 points after getting the Harbormen to the Division 1 state semifinals. The honor roll student, who was a member of the Bay State Breakers' Tier II U-14 national champion squad, is a Patriot League All-Star in soccer and track.

Jordan Juron

Middlesex
The senior was named the New England Division 2 Player of the Year and finished the season with 40 goals and 34 assists. She was named to the all-ISL team for the second consecutive season. She will play at Boston University next year.

Erika Kelly

Watertown, Senior, F
The five-time Middlesex League First-Team player led the state in scoring with 70 points (49 goals, 21 assists), giving her 241 in her career. The Middlesex League Small Division co-MVP will attend Stonehill College in the fall for field hockey.

Kim Lizotte

Westford, Junior, F
The center had 34 points this season, giving her 116 in her career, to earn MVC/DCL League player of the year honors. The three-year honor roll student was league MVP in field hockey and also played lacrosse. She plays for the Northeast Elite field hockey club.

Celia Mercier

Martha's Vineyard, Senior, F
Mercier captained the Vineyarders to their first postseason with 33 goals to lead the SEMGHL. The senior, praised by her coach for her off-ice contributions, finished fourth in her class and was accepted to Smith College.

Megan Messuri

Arlington Catholic, Sophomore, G
The goaltender produced a school-record seven shutouts and .930 save percentage as a sophomore while compiling a 1.10 goals-against average as the Cougars beat St. Mary's in the state title game. Messuri anchored victories Arlington Catholic's first wins ever against St. Mary's and Fontbonne.

Shannon O'Neil

Austin Prep, Junior, G
The junior goaltender earned her second Catholic Central League MVP award after compiling a .941 save percentage and 2.35 goals-against average. O'Neil plays softball for the Cougars in the spring.

Mary Parker

Nobles
The senior center was the recipient of the Boston Bruins John Carlton Award and led her team with 40 goals, 28 assists, and a plus-74. She was named co-ISL MVP and New England Player of the Year. She was also the MVP of the New England Division 1 tournament.

Melissa Piacentini

Thayer, Senior, F
The senior forward was named co-MVP of the Independant School League while also receiving All-League honors. In addition, Piacentini was named to the 2012 All-New England team for Division 2. She was given the team MVP award.

Casey Schaejbe

Arlington, Senior, G
The goaltender and Spy Ponders' MVP allowed 34 goals in 21 games for a 1.6- goals-against average. The Dual County League (Large) All-Star has committed to Franklin Pierce University.

Kayla Smith

Woburn, Junior, F
The junior right wing posted 60 points to lead the Tanners in scoring, giving her 165 points in her career. The Middlesex League co-MVP helped Woburn advance to the Division 1 state quarterfinals. The honor roll student also plays hockey for the Shamrocks and Islanders.

Maggie Taverna

Arlington Catholic
The 24-year-old turned a team that had not qualified for postseason play into a Division 1 state champion. The Boston College graduate went 21-3-1 in her second season, giving her a 28-12-5 mark. Taverna said her girls "deserved to win because of their hard work and dedication."

Friend Weiler

Duxbury
Weiler's team earned its second consecutive Division 2 state championship, capping a 22-0-1 season. The 11-year coach improved his career mark to 139-71-21. The Dragons' alum said the team's "dedication, commitment to teamwork and positive attitudes made them a joy to coach."
