Archbishop Williams

  • Last year's record: 2-8
  • Strength: Offensive and defensive lines.
  • Concerns: Inexperience at the skill positions.
  • Coach: Bill Kinsherf (16th season, 82-73-1)
  • Playing surface: Artificial turf
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 9 lettermen
    • Mike Augustine, OL, Junior
    • James Daley, WR/S, Junior
    • Stephen Evans, OL/DL, Senior
    • Mackenzie Isidor, OL/LB, Senior
    • Marshall Jean, LB, Senior
    • Jon Kelley, OL/DL, Senior
    • Andrew McLaughlin, OL/DL, Junior
    • Austin Oringer, OL/DL, Junior
    • Jason Pekkinen, TE/LB, Junior

With strong returning offensive and defensive lines, Kinsherf is hoping that controlling the line of scrimmage will lift the Bishops to the top of the CCL Large. Stephen Evans and John Kelley are both three-year starters on the lines and offensively, will be looked toward to open running lanes for the Bishops' I-formation, pro-style offense. WIth inexperience skill players, the offensive line will have to provide more time for Pat McElaney, who will take over at quarterback. "Pat played JV last year and is a junior," said Kinsherf. "He is an athlete, leader, and makes good decisions."

Arlington Catholic

  • Last year's record: 2-9
  • Strength: Veteran team.
  • Concerns: Depth.

  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 14 lettermen
    • Anthony Barry, DL, Senior, 5-10, 170
    • Josh Bosque-Hamilton, DB, Senior, 5-10, 175
    • Garrett Collins, OL/DL, Junior, 5-11, 215
    • Mark Connolly, OL, Junior, 6-1, 205

    • Claubitch Jean-Risme, OL/DL, Junior, 5-9, 285
    • Bernard Lynch, RB/DB, Senior, 5-7, 175
    • John Mattera, WR/DB, Senior, 5-8, 160
    • Alec Matys, WR/DB, Senior, 5-10, 170
    • Henry O'Connell, LB, Junior, 5-6, 170
    • Pat O'Donnell, QB, Senior, 5-9, 175
    • Anthony Reale, LB, Sophomore, 6-0, 185
    • John Strezzo, OL, Junior, 6-4, 205
    • Harry Thom, OL, Junior, 6-2, 265

Last season, coach Clivio had a squad filled with inexperienced underclassman. This year won't be the same as those players now have a year under their belts. The offensive line returns all of its starters and all of them are juniors. The Cougars also have some speed and athleticism in seniors Bernard Lynch and Alec Matys. Clivio called Lynch the fastest player on the team and called Matys the most athletic. He will look to those two and John Mattera to put points on the board. Depth will be an issue as Clivio said this is the smallest team in terms of numbers that he has fielded in a while.

Austin Prep

  • Last year's record: 6-5
  • Strength: Program tradition, and team's work ethic.
  • Concerns: Inexperience.
  • Coach: Bill Maradei (33rd season, 235-101-4; 19th year at Austin Prep, 135-38)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 3 lettermen
    • Joe Barry, QB/DB, Senior
    • Mark Maradei, OL/DL, Senior
    • Nick Vitale, RB/DB, Junior

Coach Maradei is fielding what he called his "youngest team in years." Two players that will be looked for to provide leadership and help the young players are captains Joe Barry and Mark Maradei. Mark is a three-year starter and has the most experience on the team. Barry returns at the most crucial position on the field, quarterback. The Cougars run the double wing offense and will try and get the ball to running backs Nick Vitale, Dan Arena, Andrew Fonzi, and Jay Deschene. "Nick and Dan are really quick. They are our get outside backs," said Maradei. "Andrew is a bruiser and Jay can do a little bit of both."

Bishop Fenwick

  • Last year's record: 3-8
  • Strength: Skill and speed.
  • Concerns: Size and numbers.
  • Coach: Dave Woods (14th season, 94-52)
  • Playing surface: Artificial turf
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 9 lettermen
    • Nick Bona, DB/QB, Sophomore, 5-7, 150
    • Greg Boudreau, RB/DB, Senior, 5-10, 155
    • Will Clancy, RB/LB, Senior, 5-9, 170
    • Mike Dainis, WR, Senior

    • Charlie Mastrellis, DB, Sophomore, 5-7, 150
    • Brandon McCauley, OL, Senior, 5-9, 170
    • Hunter Schultz, OL/LB, Senior, 5-9, 220
    • Dan St. Pierre, OL/DL, Senior, 5-11, 215

Last season, the Crusaders utilized a spread offense to take advantage of the talents of QB Bret Kidik and record-setting receiver Ryan Lipka. With the two now graduated, coach Woods is shifting back to a wing-T style of offense in order to use his team's strengths, which he identified as speed and skill. "We have some smaller kids but they are skilled and they give everything they have on every play," said Woods. Woods expects sophomore FS Charlie Mastrellis to have a break out season.

Cardinal Spellman

  • Last year's record: 12-1
  • Strength: Attitude; size on both sides of the ball
  • Concerns: Replacing quarterback, running back, and center.
  • Coach: Ron St. George (4th season, 18-17; 31st overall season, 210-104-4)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 15 lettermen
    • Derek Barros, RB/DB, Senior, 5-6, 165
    • Dan Barry, OL/LB, Senior, 6-1, 230
    • Yves Celestin, RB/DB, Senior, 5-10, 160

    • Joey Glynn, TE/DL, Senior, 6-5, 195
    • Kevin Grey, OL/DL, Senior
    • Pat Hinkley, LB/RB, Senior, 5-10, 190
    • Dan Johnson, OL/DL, Senior, 6-0, 215
    • Dan Kustka, FB/LB, Senior, 6-1, 228
    • Tom Leonard, RB/LB, Senior, 5-10, 180
    • Scott O'Brien, RB/DB, Senior, 5-7, 155
    • Pete Sawlit, OL/DL, Senior, 5-9, 215

Gone are Blaise Branch and Zac Cooney, the running back-quarterback tandem that carried the Cardinals to a Division 3A Super Bowl appearance last year. However the cupboard isn't bare. Joey Glynn and Ricky Donovan, both 6-5 tight ends, return to spearhead a passing attack that has the potential to be lethal in the red zone. Getting the ball to the two will most likely be junior Tim Burke. "Tim brings a sense of calmness to the huddle," said coach St George. "He is a skilled passer who is cerebral and takes command of the huddle." Donovan and Glynn also stand as bookends on the defensive lines. Their ability to make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks will be the key to the Cardinals' defense.

St. Mary’s

  • Last year's record: 10-1
  • Strength: Work ethic.
  • Concerns: Inexperience.
  • Coach: Matt Durgin (4th season, 22-11)
  • Playing surface: Artificial turf
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 13 lettermen
    • Jonathan Capano, QB, Senior, 5-9, 150
    • Todd Collier, RB/DB, Senior, 5-7, 155
    • Cory Donahue, DB, Senior, 5-7, 165
    • Darien Eddows, OL/DL
    • Xavier Gonzalez, FB/LB, Senior, 5-8, 185
    • Jonathan Kazadi, OL/LB, Senior, 5-11, 210
    • Nick Lee, DL
    • Tyler Maniscalco, OL/LB, 5-9, 195
    • Andrew Olson, TE/DL, Senior, 6-6, 220
    • Andres Rodriguez, OL/DL, Junior, 5-11, 275
    • Guychard Samson, TE/DL, Senior, 6-2, 215
    • Sam Scranton, LB, Senior, 5-9, 175
    • Chris Soundis, DL

After a 10-1 record last season, expectations are high for the Spartans. Todd Collier, a returning Globe All-Scholastic, will spearhead the Spartans' double wing attack. "Todd brings a competitive nature to the team and is a tremendous leader," said Durgin. Also returning is senior quarterback Jonathan Capano. Capano brings a balance to the offense and with 6-6 tight end Andrew Olson, teams can't focus only on stopping Collier. Unfortunately for the Spartans, one of their key contributors form last year, running back Nick Day, transferred to Lawrence Academy.
