Dave Bohane returns to the head coaching position at Canton this fall following a 13-year hiatus. Bohane brings with him a new coaching staff that will install an option-heavy offense and a 3-5 stack look on defense. Anthony Bires and Josh Matt are two seniors who will look to replace the production of graduated quarterback Ryan Conrad, while Ian Flavin is another possible QB choice in the junior class. Junior halfback Elias Camacho and fullback Dexter Green will also see touches in the backfield, while seniors Devin Costa and Brandyn Sparks will provide blocking up front. Bohane could benefit from his team's schedule, which opens with five consecutive home contests. "We have to find the reserve and confidence in ourselves to pull through late in games," he said. "A win early in the season wouldn't hurt that cause."

Foxborough

  • Last year's record: 5-6
  • Strength: Skill positions, especially running back, and quarterback.
  • Concerns: Depth on the offensive and defensive lines.
  • Coach: Jack Martinelli (30th season, 224-79-5 overall record.)

    • Nick Sestito, QB, Senior, 6-1, 180
    • Greg Stamatov, WR/S, Senior, 5-10, 160

Despite a rough 1-4 start in 2010, the Warriors regrouped to win four of their final six games, and Jack Martinelli is hoping this late-season momentum translates into 2011. Senior quarterback Nick Sestito returns for his third season under center and will look to build off his seven touchdown tosses from a season ago. He will have weapons in the form of Greg Stamatov at receiver and Kiivone Howard, an all-purpose back who also plays safety. Providing protection for Sestito is senior Connor Lally, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound offensive and defensive lineman who Martinelli believes could garner interest from some FCS schools. Overall Martinelli believes his team enters 2011 in much better shape than last season. "This is the hardest working group I've had in a long time, and these kids have put in the work to be in top physical condition. We were decimated injury-wise last season, but now we're healthy and ready to go."

After a tough 1-9 campaign in 2009 the Tigers showed improvement by going 4-6 last season, and coach Jim Artz believes there is reason for optimism in North Easton. The team will rely heavily on linebacker and running back Brian Rezendes, a senior captain whom Artz calls the team's "best natural football player." Also anchoring the linebacker corps is senior captain Dean Soucie, a player Artz considers to be the team's emotional leader. Senior Jared Schneider will line up under center and will have the luxury of a big target at the tight end position in the form of 6-foot-2 Alex Tepper, a "workhorse" according to his coach. Up front, senior captain Jacob McDougall is one of the the Tigers' "students of the game" according to Artz and will provide leverage up front. Two others to watch include senior Brian Crosby at running back and receiver, and senior Samuel Langston, whom Artz believes is primed for a big year at the running back position.

    • Brad Schiff, Junior
    • Tyler Schuster, RB/DB, Senior, 5-9, 165

The Eagles are seeking a fresh start this fall and will get one in the form of Dave Morse, a head coach at the tender age of 24. The rookie coach will look to get increased production from his offense, especially on the ground via the double wing formation. Senior captain Jordan Owen plays a big part in Sharon's ground game at the fullback position, and overall is a player "the team revolves around" according to Morse. Junior back Sean Asnes will be expected to step up and handle more carries in the backfield, while senior quarterback Caleb Piltch-Loeb gets a chance to spread the ball around in the option attack. Morse considers senior Jake Rotman to be the squad's most explosive player and will see time at receiver, cornerback, punter, kicker, punter and returner. Aside from X's and O's, Morse said he is looking to instill confidence into his players. "We need to teach them how to have success in order to make winning a habit."

Stoughton

  • Last year's record: 4-7
  • Strength: Increased speed at skill positions.
  • Concerns: Inexperience on the offensive line, tight end.
  • Coach: Greg Burke (19th season, 106-82-4 career record)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games
  • showReturning: 6 lettermen
    • Brandon Alves, OL/DL, Senior, 6-2, 270
    • Aaron Calixte, QB/S, Junior, 6-0, 175
    • Dan Eckler, QB/DB, Junior, 5-9, 150
    • Aaron Mack, RB/DB, Junior, 6-1, 175
    • Marcus Middleton, TE/LB, Junior, 5-10, 165
    • Andrew Paredes, OL/DL, Senior, 6-0, 270

Greg Burke's Black Knights haven't been a Hockomock League force in recent years, and Burke says it's time that changed. The 19th-year head coach is encouraged by his offensive skill players, which boast more speed than in years past and will attack defenses in multiple ways. Junior Aaron Calixte will see time at quarterback and will look to use his athleticism to make plays. Classmate Dan Eckler will be waiting in the wings and is a dependable option at the quarterback position as well. Fellow juniors Aaron Mack and Marcus Middleton will be utilized as offensive weapons from the running back and tight end positions, respectively. The team will rely on seniors Brandon Alves and Andrew Paredes to provide assistance to an otherwise young and inexperienced offensive line. Stoughton will be tested early with the September schedule featuring Holliston, Somerset Berkley, and Mansfield, three teams which finished with a combined record of 36-3 last season. "I like the early season challenge," Burke said. "It will make us a tougher football team."
