Div 4 South Shore

Abington

  • Last year's record: 9-2
  • Strength: Defensive front seven.
  • Concerns: Replacing quarterback Zach Littman and running back John Lane.
  • Coach: James Kelliher (37th season, 196-166-7 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

A 9-2 record would be labeled as a success for most programs but for Abington last season was disappointing. A South Shore powerhouse, Abington failed to win the division and make the post season for the first time since 2004. To wipe the bad taste away the Green Wave will rely heavily on linebackers Cejay Suarez and Pat Dwyer. Offensively, Abington turns to Brandon Cawley to take the snaps under center and guide their offensive attack

Carver

  • Last year's record: 0-11
  • Strength: Experience.
  • Concerns: Depth.
  • Coach: Michael Fraccalossi (14th season, 61-71-3)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

Carver has a wealth of experience this season. After having a young core a year ago, coach Michael Fraccalossi will be able to have a group of juniors who he deems impressive on the field. Included in that class of juniors are running back/linebacker Ryan Zackaruski and linebacker Zakias Robertson, both of whom figure to see plenty of time in 2011. Fraccalossi says his group of athletic linebackers will give him the flexibility to do some different things on defense. The two quarterback options for Carver are senior Ryan Scalata or junior Scott Alexander, each have been making strides and should see snaps under center.

Cohasset

  • Last year's record: 7-3
  • Strength: Athleticism; Team speed.
  • Concerns: Depth.
  • Coach: Peter Afanasiw (6th season, 34-16-2 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Artificial turf
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

Cohasset is coming off back-to-back strong campaigns and looking to make the next step, which would be postseason play. With depth concerns, coach Peter Afanasiw couldn't stress how important it is for his team to stay healthy. "Depth, depth, depth," said Afanasiw when asked what his concerns were for the upcoming season. "The team is relatively young but if we stay healthy we can compete with anyone." What the Skippers lack in stature they make up in speed and athleticism as they will attempt to outwork other teams with their versatility.

East Bridgewater

  • Last year's record: 9-2
  • Strength: Leadership, experience, and running game.
  • Concerns: Depth on offensive and defensive lines.
  • Coach: Shawn Tarpey (7th season, 28-35-1 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

East Bridgewater bounced back from a down season in 2009, finishing 1-5 in the division, to finishing second in the division a year ago at 5-2. People in the South Shore have taken notice of the turnaround and won't take the Vikings lightly this season. A core group led by senior captain and All-Scholastic Casey DeAdrade, who found himself in the end zone 23 times last season, look to take the final hurdle to the post season and South Shore League title.

Hull

  • Last year's record: 3-7
  • Strength: Hardworking; strong character; experience.
  • Concerns: Depth
  • Coach: Jake McGrath (9th season, 34-49 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

Coach Jake McGrath brings back a majority of his starters this season and is pleased with the work ethic and character of his squad. "We have a bunch of hardworking young men who if stay healthy will compete," said McGrath who is entering his 8th season at the helm. The injury bug hit the Pirates hard last season and if they avoid any type of injury to their prime positions expect a significant push up the standing this season.

Mashpee

  • Last year's record: 9-2
  • Strength: Running game;,defensive experience, and versatility.
  • Concerns: Depth and experience on the offensive line.
  • Coach: Matt Triveri (7th season, 49-16 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

After graduating captain and fullback Zack Martin a year ago, Mashpee is trying to re-establish its running game. John Keliinui will take some carries but will also be playing the other side of the ball as a linebacker. So that leaves junior John Williams, who is trying to build off of a solid sophomore campaign. Fellow junior Mike McCarthy will also help the backfield depth and will also anchor the Falcon defense at safety.

Norwell

  • Last year's record: 1-10
  • Strength: Team unity; speed.
  • Concerns: Depth; injuries.
  • Coach: Matt Luccarelli (1st season, 0-0)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

The 2010 season was a rough one to swallow for Norwell. The Clippers lost much of their production from the precious season, but there were still signs of hope as they continually improved throughout the year. Senior quarterback Bret Morgan will be heading into his second campaign behind center while former basketball player, 6-foot-5 junior tight-end/defensive end, Nick Volpe should show signs of improvement in his second full season of football.

Rockland

  • Last year's record: 10-2
  • Strength: Offensive game.
  • Concerns: Inexperience.
  • Coach: Ken Owen (29th season, 197-166-7 career record.)
  • Playing surface: Grass
  • Schedule: Complete list of games

Rockland graduated a "special group of seniors," according to head coach Ken Owen, a group that won the SSL title last fall. But after watching his team play in their scrimmages he feels those seniors had a lasting efect on this class. His current group, led by senior quarterback Ricky Witt and running back Christian Henrickson, learned from last year's seniors and has carried over the same attitude as a year ago. The Bulldogs look to take that final jump into the Super Bowl with this year's group.
