In his first season back at Canton, coach Bohane was impressed with the competitiveness of his team. Although the Bulldogs only won three games in 2011, they defeated Hockomock (Davenport) champion Oliver Ames and lost in a close one to North Attleboro (9-1) 7-0. This year Canton will return seniors Elias Camacho and Dexter Green to the backfield, a duo that combined for more than 20 TDs last year. Camacho and Conor O'Brien will lead the defense at linebacker. The Bulldogs graduated QB Anthony Bires and senior Ian Flavin has the edge for the starting job. Bohane thinks being in the second year with this group will help. "We had the system in place last year and now it's familiar with [the players] and it makes a world of difference," he said.

Foxboro never recovered from some key injuries early last season as it ended the year 4-7. This year the Warriors will try to take advantage of their speed on offense highlighted by senior running back Kiivone Howard, who coach Jack Martinelli described as a player he believes is a Division 1 college prospect. Although the Warriors do return some starters from last season, many inexperienced players will play key roles and Martinelli is happy with the progression of these new players in camp. But after coaching for 30 seasons, Martinelli knows once the team hits the field it will not be easy. "Every week will be a challenge," he said. "I don't see where there is not a good football team in the (Hockomock) league."

Oliver Ames

    • Ryan St. Clair, 2013, 5-10, 180
    • Matthew Walker, OL/DL, 2013, 6-2, 215

Last season was a breakout year for the Tigers as they won the Hockomock Davenport and reached the Division 3 Super Bowl before falling to Concord-Carlisle. "That was last year. For the senior class [of 2012] that was their legacy," said Artz. "These kids [this year] are trying to make their own legacy." It will be a tough task for Oliver Ames as 21 seniors graduated leaving the Tigers with many inexperienced players. "We have done very good in practices but practice is a little different than a Friday night," said Artz. The Tigers will rely on their speed on defense especially linebacker John Kelly and Brandon Gagliardi, who filled in at multiple positions on D last year and whose 88-yard interception return in the playoffs against Pembroke sealed a trip to Gillete for the Tigers.

    • Frank Sullivan, RB/LB, 2014, 5-10, 180

In Dave Morse's first season as coach, the Eagles had more wins than the program had in the previous five seasons combined. Morse hopes that a strong running attack of senior Sean Asnes, an All-Hockomock player last season, and junior Evantz Elisma will bring experience to what will be a run-heavy offense this season. On the defensive side of the ball, All-Hockomock middle linebacker Brad Schiff will also return. The Eagles have 19 returning lettermen, many of which have three years of varsity experience and Morse thinks this has helped his team early in the year. "We are pretty efficient right now. We are executing at a better level than last year," said Morse.

Stoughton

In his 19th season as coach of Stoughton, Burke led the team to a 6-5 record, just shy of Oliver Ames for first in the Hockomock Davenport. This year the Black Knights return a trio in the backfield of Aaron Mack, Marcus Middleton, and Frankie Morris who combined for 1,600 yards in 2011 and Burke hopes they will exceed that number this season. Dan Eckler will start at quarterback and he has some starting experience last year which makes Burke confident in his ability. Adam Leonard is also expected to play key roles at guard and linebacker where he led the team in tackles last season. "We have pretty good speed and we are hanging in there with strength and size, hopefully we will be able to slug it out," said Burke. "We have kids that have been working hard and hopefully we will get it done."
