Without running back Andrew Coke, who graduated with 2,998 yards and racked up 48 TDs his junior and senior seasons, the Golden Warriors are shifting towards a pass-heavy offense. Senior quarterback CJ Scarpa threw 21 touchdowns and eclipsed 1,500 yards as a junior. This year Scarpa will have a big target in 6-foot-2-inch Will Heikkinen (13 TDs last season). Cam Farnham, a speedy 5-foot-7-inch wideout, returns after catching seven touchdowns last year. Behind a veteran offensive line, Mark Zavrl will take most of the carries out of the backfield. On defense, Andrew Ladd solidifies the linebacking corps, while Andreas Christopulos anchors the defensive line. Expect Andover to be a strong contender for the MVC (Large) title.

    • Steven Trask, K/WR, 2013, 5-10, 170

For the first time in four years, the Indians will start a season without quarterback Nick LaSpada. However, coach Peter Flynn is confident in junior Jordan Bolarinho, who played three games last season while LaSpada dealt with health issues. "He has a mastery of the offense, and he's been throwing the daylights out of the ball," Flynn said. Bolarinho has the luxury of throwing to one of the state's best receivers, senior captain Matt Clifford (14 touchdowns last season). The offensive line is also a strength for the Indians, anchored by the 6-foot, 290-pound Chad DellaPorta. Seniors Bradley Drewek and Connor Kelly will also contribute on both sides of the line.

    • David Veilleux, T/DT, 2013, 6-2, 250
    • Jeremy Zannini, RB/DB, 2013, 5-10, 155

The Raiders will have to replace quarterback Matt McDermott, and coach Chuck Adamopolous said it's a three-way battle between junior Nick Boes and sophomores Mike Milano and Mike Balsamo. Whoever emerges will be protected by the veteran offensive line of Ryan Barry, Ben Tavitian, Sean Kirchner and Ben Marggraff. Tavitian and Barry are also key defensive tackles, and Marggraff will provide a strong presence at inside linebacker. Santino Brancato and D'Andre Drummond-Mayrie form a powerful running back tandem, and will play important defensive roles at linebacker and defensive back, respectively. After ending last season with a 48-46 double-OT win over Andover on Thanksgiving, the Raiders charge into 2012 with their sights on the league title.

    • Bobby Sullivan, QB, 2013, 6-1, 190
    • Eric Vangelder, WR, 2013, 6-1, 180

After waiting patiently behind graduated quarterback Colby Emanouil, senior Bobby Sullivan will get his shot at commanding the Lions offense. Sullivan has the luxury of a veteran receiving core, as seniors Greg Johnson, Eric Vangelder, and Zach Lattimore all return this season. A huge loss for Chelmsford is running back Eddie Sheridan, who graduated after leading Eastern Mass. with 24 touchdowns. However, according to coach Bruce Rich, Connor Brimley and Jeff d'Auria both have the speed to be highly efficient out of the backfield. In the same respect, there is no replacing linebacker Tim Joy (BC), who finished his career with a whopping 400-plus tackles. But Matt Rabbito and twin brothers Tony and Chris Marino all played alongside Joy and returne. Behind defensive tackle Pat Healy the line will be strong, but how quickly the offensive line can come together could determine the team's success.

Coach John Florence is tasked with replacing quarterback R.J. Noel, who graduated with 21 passing and 16 rushing touchdowns, but he has a strong candidate in senior Cam Latta. "He's not quite as athletic [as Noel], but he's very smart, very tough, and he makes great reads," Florence said about Latta. Wideouts Alex Kasirye, Jack Galvin, Anthony Consolo, and Michael Holder bring tremendous speed to the line and Florence will count on them to get the ball in space and spread the field. What Lowell lacks in size on the offensive and defensive line is made up with great speed. Running backs Ngaiiva Mason and Shyheim Cullen will take most of the carries, and will also be vital pieces to the defense. In one of the top conferences in the state, expect Lowell to be highly competitive on a weekly basis.
