2007: The year in sports

(Globe Staff Photos)

Stars were aligned in banner year

Not since 1986 - when the Celtics claimed their 16th NBA title, the Patriots played in the Super Bowl, and the Sox were one strike away from winning the Series - has it been so good, so good around here. (Boston Globe, 12 a.m.)

Sport's theme for 2007 was 'let's misbehave'

After a year of Men Behaving Badly (and one too-fast-to-be-true woman), Spygate barely made the list of most notable transgressions in sports. Compared with serial dopers, point shavers, dog killers, vandals, sexual harassers, and stripper-slammers, the Patriots' playing at Candid Camera was a mere naughty-naughty. (Boston Globe, 12 a.m.)

Enjoy this state of euphoria

It appears that allowing the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics to shower the sports fans of New England with victory after victory - with one championship secured, another very likely to follow, and a third now a reasonable goal - does not spoil any vast eternal plan whatsoever. (Boston Globe, 12 a.m.)
